Rosneft, Statoil Complete Drilling on North-Komsomolskoye Pilot Project

Rosneft and Statoil have completed drilling works for pilot project on the PK1 layer of the North-Komsomolskoye field in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District of Russia.

The Russian oil major said that the two companies have jointly drilled two horizontal wells so far during 2015. They have carried out extended logging, including core and fluid samplings, as well as – for the first time onshore Russia – completing a well using openhole gravel packing in a horizontal section 3,280 feet long.

Rosneft and Statoil now plan to carry out well testing and determine further prospects on the PK1 layer development based on results from these tests. The companies believe that implementation of the project may allow the effective development of about 600 million tons of oil in place on the North-Komsomolskoye field over the short term.

Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin commented in a company statement:

The pilot drilling at the North-Komsomolskoye field opens a new stage of the joint work of Rosneft and Statoil. The companies are working actively and continue developing the long-term cooperation."
