Design, modify, and test downhole mechanical tools for oilfield drilling applications.  Design of drilling tools to include, but not limited to the following products; drilling motors, adjustable gauge stabilizers and M/LWD products. 


Design new and/or modify existing products.  All released designs must follow defined company or industry standard policies.

Provide manufacturing engineering support in both a prototype and production setting.

Perform product assembly and testing.

Prepare process documentation for tool service and operation.

Select and evaluate mechanical components and materials.

Validate product performance through laboratory and field testing.

Detailed report preparation to document engineering analysis and testing.

Provide technical support to manufacturing, field operations and other Weatherford groups as required.

Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.

Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.

Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level.

Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.



Ability to author technical documents associated with the mechanical engineering process. 

Ability to plan scheduled tasks within guidelines set by senior personnel.

Ability to work and communicate effectively with senior personnel. internal and external customers.

Proficient with 3D solid modeling packages

Proficient with Microsoft Office products

University degree in Mechanical Engineering or commensurate experience.

Familiarity with computer-aided design tools and standard shop-work practices.

Two to five years of related experience with proficiency in mechanical parts and assemblies design.

The physical ability to respond to emergency situations.


Knowledge of downhole oilfield tool design

Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

Experience with basic metrology techniques.
