Kvaerner Canada is currently seeking the position of Commissioning Lead

Location: St. John's, NL and Argentia, NL

Employment Terms: Full Time, Project Based Employment

The yearly salary will be in the range of CAD $180,000 - $200,000

Job Scope:


The successful candidate will lead the planning and execution of the commissioning and performance testing of the CGS ballast systems in support of the West White Rose Project.

Job Duties:


  • Coordinate and manage commissioning planning and execution activities;
  • Engagement and coordination with CGS Design and Construction Contractors to support establishment of CGS Ballast System (design, procurement, delivery, installation, mechanical completion, commissioning and performance testing);
  • Produce commissioning strategies, commissioning manuals and commissioning schedule;
  • Ensure commissioning strategies are implemented into design and delivery of third-party vendor/ supplier procurement packages;
  • Produce commissioning plans and procedures;
  • Participate in risk assessments/ HAZIDs/ HAZOPs;
  • Participate in and/or coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing and Systems Integration Testing as well as ensure commissioning and performance testing is incorporated into testing plans;
  • Take a lead role in the troubleshooting and resolution of any findings identified during mechanical completion, commissioning and/or performance testing of CGS Ballast System and/or components
  • Coordinate with regulator and other governing authorities;
  • Manage commissioning activities and work force on site.


Skills Requirements:


  • Educational background in Civil / Mechanical Engineering field or relevant education paired with experience;
  • Minimum 15 + years of relevant experience within the field of concrete structures construction with in depth knowledge and experience with ballast system design, installation and commissioning;
  • Multi-discipline competence in civil structural, naval, mechanical systems and piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls is required to effectively fulfill this role;
  • Knowledge and management of fixed offshore oil and gas structures, including concrete, and familiar with all aspects of multi-disciplined projects involving engineering, procurement, large structural fabrication, marine/civil construction, and commissioning requirements;
  • Knowledge and understanding of C-NLOPB regulatory requirements;
  • Knowledge of specific codes and standards used for design and construction of offshore equipment and structures;
  • Experience in coordinating completion and commissioning activities with Marine Warranty and/or Certifying Authorities;
  • Knowledge of offshore oil production and subsea equipment.
