Job Description

This role consists of day to day terminal operations (pipeline, rail offloading, marine loading & offloading) and maintenance activities (including supervision of contractors and issuing Permits to Work) while demonstrating focus on safe operating and maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Connect/disconnect/offload of rail tank cars
  • Loading & discharge of cargo via marine vessels
  • Pipeline operations
  • Product Quality sampling and testing
  • Operation of the waste water treatment plant
  • Documentation and system processing as required (paper & electronic)
  • Maintenance activities including surveillance checks, coordinating & supervising contractors and issuing PTWs
  • Initial emergency response actions (people & process)
  • Demonstrated focus and compliance on safe operating procedures
This position is physically demanding, climbing and working at heights as necessary, pulling and attaching hoses by climbing underneath rail cars with various clearances.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for anyone other than current employer
  • Must possess a current, valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License, or the equivalent from another province
  • High school equivalency is required
  • Must be familiar with BC regulations pertaining to occupational health, safety and environment, TDG, WHIMIS and sustainable development
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in an industrial environment
  • Willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and be on-call to respond to emergencies when required
  • Willing to work a rotating shift schedule
  • Overtime and after-hours coverage is required
  • Some travel may be required
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather and potentially rough terrain
  • Must reside within the area or be willing to relocate
  • Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level
  • Willing to participate on an emergency response team
  • Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Willing to work in a diverse and team-oriented environment
  • Must have attention to detail and demonstrate experience following operations, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Computer literacy is a necessity
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English
  • Ability to multitask and respond to time constraints and deadlines
  • Good communication, organization, and time management skills are a must
  • Required to be an energetic self-starter and be able to work effectively and safely with minimum supervision
  • Must be comfortable working alone outside of normal business hours
  • Previous experience in distribution terminal operation and product knowledge of gasoline, distillate or aviation fuels is considered an asset
  • A condition of employment for this position is successful completion of a pre-placement medical Assessment of your fitness for duty, background check, and pre-site access testing for alcohol and specified drugs
