Job Description

If you enjoy the people-focused part of HSE - coaching and influencing - this role is a great chance to share your knowledge with others and to develop your own career at the same time.

Where you fit in
In this Health & Safety Environment Specialist role, you'll be part of Shell's Real Estate team whose goal is to create safe, secure, cost effective, and productive environments that allow people to perform at their best. Shell Real Estate manages non-hydrocarbon assets.

Part of a nine-strong regional HSE team, you'll take care of Health and Safety (HSE/HSSE) matters across 5 real estate locations for NAM. NAM (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij B.V.) is a Shell joint venture, that's been producing oil and gas in the Netherlands since 1947. NAM is engaged in the exploration and production of oil and more importantly natural gas in the Netherlands and the Dutch section of the Continental Shelf.

AM (50% Shell, 50% ExxonMobil) is by far the largest natural gas producer in the Netherlands, accounting for around 75% of the natural gas produced in the Netherlands. Many of the fields and facilities are in mature and late field life stage, but at the same time the NAM is bringing new fields on-stream with innovative development concepts.

The fields onshore (minus the Groningen-field) are managed by Asset Land, divided in three main areas: Noord (gas fields Fryslân, small gas fields in Groningen), Oost (oil- and gas fields Drenthe, gas fields Twente) and West (oil and gas fields in Zuid-Holland, gas fields in Noord-Holland).

It's a great chance to use your skills in a large, corporate environment where HSE is very important. You can also look forward to working for a manager who's enthusiastic about coaching, learning and career development.

What's the role
Broadly, your role is to support site leaders (across 5 sites in the North Netherlands) to steer their HSSE strategy. You'll have a wide remit stretching from the basics (ensuring legal compliance with local legislation and supporting reporting and performance management); conducting/overseeing incident investigation, audits etc. right through to driving behavioural safety and culture change programs. Officially, you'll be the Locatie Verantwoordelijk Persoon (LVP) at each site, The ability to prioritize your workload and be a 'self-starter' is necessary to drive a positive change.

The challenge will be to manage a vast array of stakeholders: influencing decision-makers; talking to suppliers to shape the way they work; coaching contractors on the shop floor. Whether you're delivering large presentations or training individuals on risk assessments, the way you show up and work with people is very important. You'll soon become a valuable, visible presence at each site.

Requirements

What we need from you

We're open minded about your background, but this would be a great move for someone with HSE training/qualifications who's worked in an operational or HSE role (possibly in Facilities Management) before moving into a job with wider responsibility. You've seen how to deliver great HSE on the ground but you also understand how to train, coach and influence teams to be safety leaders.

That's where your soft skills come in. You're a natural influencer - someone who's in their element cultivating relationships with a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders, including (especially!) senior decision makers. You have the courage to initiate change plus clear, confident communication skills, both in Dutch and English.

Based in NAM Assen, you'll often be travelling to sites across the North Netherlands, so a driving licence is a must. Beyond that, it would be preferable, if you had training and experience of managing: fire safety systems; electrical work/ safety; working at height; hot works; confined space working; lifting operations; construction refurbishment.
