Our client, a large Operator company, is currently seeking a Construction Director for a long term contract role. The role will be based in Calgary and then transition to site in 2020. 
 

The Program Construction Director is accountable for overall project delivery including scope development, cost estimates, planning and scheduling, cost control, regulatory approval, HSE, and project execution including detail design, procurement and construction. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Project organization structure
  • Define the appropriate team structure for the stage of the project
  • Ensure all positions are staffed with competent and experienced individuals
  • Ensure Roles and Responsibilities are well defined and communicated
  • Ensure strong team integration and alignment
  • Ensure the project has clear Scope, Objectives and Goals
  • Lead the development of annual project goals
  • Ensure the project goals are well aligned with the client Objectives
  • Broadly communicate monthly goals status to all stakeholders
  • Lead the development of intervention plan as appropriate to meet goals
  • Ensure the Project team has enough resources to be successful; Money, People & Tools
  • Ensure appropriate budget is available to achieve project team goals
  • Review monthly cost report, monitor against budget and take appropriate actions
  • Maintain appropriate organization in place to achieve goals
  • Lead communication with external stakeholders
  • Identify external stakeholders and develop appropriate communication plan
  • Provide weekly update to Project Sponsors
  • Attend Project Steering Committee to provide project update
  • Promote project with vendors and contractors
  • Communicate information and approval to Project team in a timely manner
  • Lead the Project Leadership weekly meeting
  • Attend weekly project communication meeting
  • Ensure an active Project HSE program is in place
  • Ensure issues & concerns are resolved in a timely manner
  • Take a lead role in resolving conflicts
  • Promote a "No Change" mentality and ensure only "Unsafe or Won't Work" changes are implemented
  • Provide timely support for Management of Change
  • Won't work means that it would not meet the project goals
  • Develop economic criteria to evaluate other potential changes which should be considered
  • Support Project Activities (Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Process Automation, Commissioning & start-up, Contract Administration)
  • Provide prompt review and approval as needed
  • Attend FEED contractor weekly meeting
  • Delegate Authority as needed
  • Work with human Resources to ensure people are treated fairly
  • Ensure appropriate HR policies are in place and implemented
  • Ensure people are properly recognized
  • Ensure each team member has a development plan in place to acquire news skills and knowledge
  • Provide coaching to people for their current role
  • Provide prompt feedback on performance.
  • Qualifications

    -15+ years mega project experience, preferably an engineering educational background coupled with certifications ie: project management, leadership, lean methodology, etc.
    - Owner and EPC project experience 
    - Petrochemical experience is preferred
