Retail is the "Dace of RDS". We play a central role in building Shell's brand value and reputation as well as contributing strong returns, stable cash delivery and E2E value to Downstream. We face challenging operating environment, low-cost innovative competitors, uncertain regulations, shifting fuel demand and customers with more sophisticated needs and choices

This role will need to closely work with the Ventures Finance team, Retail CoE functions and regional finance team to enable the Retail Management team to steer and control the portfolio of ventures in accordance to the set strategic intents within the context of Shell Shareholder Representative Office.


Management Information Excellence:

Demonstrate initiative and personal leadership in preparing information that will assist management in decision-making.
Provide a consistent and clear picture of actual business performance relative to plan, ensuring consistency and integrity of all data from JVs through close alignment with Venture Finance Analyst in areas such as monthly financial performance Estimation/ Forecast, JV Scorecard result and Cash Flow monitoring to support the achievement of Shell Shareholder goals.
Lead to maintain a systematic financial database, report process and platform to synergize and centralize efforts in organic JVs and eliminate duplications, simplify and standardise MI pack for Vs
First point of contact with Group reporting team and JV FN team for managing the periodic reporting functions in JVs to ensure delivery for Group reporting timetables.
Lead monthly performance review pack preparation, RLT commentary for VP, CCT highlights, outlook submission.
Lead quarterly LE preparation, review and submission.
etworking with Regional/Global MI team to understand global practice and adapt its excellence. To localize the practice as appropriate to fit for China operation.
Work with Retail IT manager to further utilize the IT technology for maintaining a robust MI system.
First point of contact with Retail Management Team members on margins, opex and overall Latest Estimates. Act a critical role in providing accurate and timely business support and analysis.
Monthly tracking of actual performance versus plan, and require excellent communication skills to influence Sales & Ops, Network and Marketing Functions on Opex discipline and delivery of Business Plan

Annual T&R and budget Control:

To develop a proper mechanism for annual budget preparation exercise and budget control monitoring system for both organic JVs and HQ.
To co-ordinate the preparation of operational business plans for the Organic JVs. Work with Economic advisor on challenging assumptions where appropriate in order to ensure that credible, competitive and affordable performance targets are set at Shareholder level.
To monitor the impact of Retail initiatives and projects and ensuring incorporation into Shell's T&R.
Assisting PAM on JV scorecard setting and VP GPA tracking

People Development:

Support Venture Finance Managers to provide world class reporting, planning and appraisal guidance / coaching for sustainable competencies development.

Dimensions :

Retail business in China operates through multiple legal entities (minority owned JVs and their 100% owned subsidiaries) across wide geographical and different provinces in China to cope with existing highly regulated business environment. The statutory and regulatory framework in China is immature and changing with conflicting/competing provincial and national objectives. All these complicated operations pose challenges in navigating conflicting regulations/ambiguity, in addition to managing JV partners.

Degree in the areas of Business, Finance or Accounting and/or MBA and/or professional certification(s) preferred with minimum 8 years' experience.

Structured Knowledge Management skills and be able to understand a large volume of detail/complexity

Proven analytical and problem solving skills

Excellent presentation and communication skills

Solid knowledge and experience in budget setting and control processes

Delivery focus and proven track record in recent positions

Initiator with ability to work in multi-culture environments and with limited direct supervision

Strong business and commercial sense

Time management and effective prioritization

Fluency in both Chinese and English
