In seek of a Buyer-Estimator for Modular Process equipment manufacturing company

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage quotation due dates.
  • Ensure a clean handover to execution team is established and maintained.
  • Check costing and quote write ups.
  • Drives and contributes to the department continuous improvement culture.
  • Responsible for Purchasing for the value stream
  • No direct reports
  • Understands the principles of estimating, quantity takeoff, costing, and pricing.
  • Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents while exercising discretion and independent judgment with regard to significant business matters.
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
  • Assists or performs change order estimates.
  • Prepares bid packages.
  • Interacts with vendors to obtain material quotes and maintain current vendor material costs log.
  • Provides detailed lists of criteria and any inclusions or exclusions in an estimate for use in written proposal to the customer.
  • Effectively communicates with Sales and Operations to maintain a consistent workflow.
  • Possess essential knowledge of industry specifications and standards such as AGA3, ASME Code (Section I, II, & VIII), ANSI (B31.3 & B31.1), NACE MR-0175, API ...etc.
  • Collects and correlates necessary project-related cost and schedule data needed to determine equipment, material, subcontract, labor, expenses, and such in-directs as engineering, taxes, etc. (Ensures accuracy of estimates by working closely with Project Team members to understand scope and details of project).
  • Drives and contributes to the department continuous improvement culture.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all matters.


  • 3+ years of engineering and/or estimating experience in the oil & gas industry.
  • 3+ years of purchasing/buying experience in the oil & gas industry.
  • Four-year college or university degree; engineering or related field preferred. High school diploma acceptable
  • Process equipment experience and knowledge preferred but not mandatory
  • Production equipment experience and knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (Basic), MS Excel & MS Word
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to review a P&ID and recognize major equipment.
  • Ability to use a customer relationship management system.
  • Ability to give and take instruction and get along well with others.
