Job Summary

This position is located in the Midland, Texas office working with the Delaware Basin Subsurface Characterization team providing petrophysical support for unconventional reservoir field development. This Job provides direct support to drilling operations and completions teams with tool selection, quality control, 24/7 field support, etc. This type of work is critical to making sure that drilling operations are fully supported with subject matter expertise; ensuring that appropriate and accurate data is acquired.

This position will work with engineers, geoscientists and other petrophysicists to characterize the rock and fluid properties of target reservoirs by taking well log measurements, engaging in core and seismic studies. This position is responsible for disseminating our understanding of rock and fluid properties to ensure teams implement the appropriate approach to finding and extracting oil and gas from subsurface formations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four (4) + years of relevant experience in petrophysical interpretation and operations required.

  • Significant experience in tight gas/oil, gas/oil shales, and unconventional reservoirs is highly desired, with Delaware Basin experience as a big plus.

  • Strong background integrating core, log and well data.

  • Strong background developing and executing multifaceted petrophysical field studies, demonstrating ability to influence multiple disciplines.

  • Proficiency in computer based interpretation in a petrophysical software package a must, and working experience with Interactive Petrophysics software is a big plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to successfully interact with representatives of other departments, vendors, partner companies, and work well in integrated teams.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning and execution of formation evaluation programs to optimize reservoir characterization studies as a critical member of integrated project teams.

  • Provide operational petrophysical support to wells drilling within areas of responsibility.

  • Apply petrophysical interpretation techniques using state-of-the-art technology and mentor others in the deployment of advanced techniques.

  • Undertake local and regional petrophysical studies to support asset teams in their efforts to evaluate field development scenarios, improve reservoir characterization, and define uncertainty and risk.

  • Interface with logging & coring vendors as part of providing petrophysical support for region.

  • Keep up with current and leading logging (wireline & LWD) technologies and recommend their applications where appropriate.

  • Demonstrate expertise in new interpretation techniques as they relate to areas of responsibilities.

  • This position may require 24/7 operational support when logging or coring jobs are currently underway.Field visits may also be required.


Education

B.S. in Petroleum Engineering, or M.S. or PhD Degree in Geology or related field.

Certifications / Licenses

Valid driver's license with no restrictions that would prohibit driving a company vehicle is required.

Relocation

This position may be eligible for domestic relocation.

Travel Requirements

The percentage of travel required for this position is up to 20%.

Work Schedule
This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule, however this position covers 24-hour operations and must be available for 24/7 on call as operations dictate.
