In order to apply for this position, applicants MUST meet the following criteria. If your resume
does not match these criteria, you will not be able to apply for this position.
If you've shown you can drive continuous improvement, this is a great chance to gain commercial involvement in Shell's Trading and Supply space and to develop your leadership skills in a highly accountable role.
What's the role?
In a nutshell, your role will be to manage and optimise the contractual performance of our haulier contracts across the Netherland, Belgium and Luxembourg - especially when it comes to HSSE. Hauliers form part of Shell's complex, trading operation, making hundreds of trips every day. You'll piece together the narrative of their day-to-day operations and analyse this against financial results to identify key areas for improvement. Over time, your challenge will be to shift mindsets from 'monitor and control' to a more behavioural-based culture - one that's driven by risk awareness and situational management.
You can look forward to working closely with colleagues in the Freight Self Billing team in our Pernis depot, our RT Contracts Manager and, of course, with suppliers all over Europe. You'll look at operations holistically, identify learning points and then find creative ways to inspire behaviour change; for example: how can we drive up Health & Safety performance or maximise efficiencies in our contracts. All in all, it's a wonderfully accountable role where you'll clearly see the impact of your work on our performance and profitability.
Shell Nederland BV is a platform for international collaboration, with Shell offering direct employment to around ten thousand people in the Netherlands alone, including roughly 2,800 non-Dutch employees from around 80 countries. Diversity is key at Shell Nederland, and our employees reflect the innovation that stems from a diverse workforce. By joining Shell Nederland, you will benefit from an unrivalled industry-leading development programme that will see you tap into a pool of expert knowledge that will help propel your career. Shell Nederland is the holding company of most Shell companies operating in the Netherlands. Shell Nederland also has an advisory and coordinating role in numerous areas.
What we need from you
Ideally, you already understand the transport industry, logistics and supply chain processes but, first and foremost, you'll need a proven ability to deliver Continuous Improvement and evidence that you can influence behaviour and change people's mindsets. You're a strong commercial thinker, with experience of contract management who's shown you can apply common standards and find practical solutions. Experience of working with HSSE policy and risk management processes would be an advantage too - as would Lean Six Sigma certification.
It's your personal skills that will set you apart. Daily contact with external third party suppliers and commercial relationship management will be key, so you'll need good negotiation skills and a friendly-but-firm communication style, both in Dutch or English - and, ideally, in French too. You'll need to be confident working in a multi-cultural environment, dealing with people of different nationalities and cultures. You'll also need to be flexible enough to make occasional trips both within the Netherlands (c. 20 days a year) and across Europe (c. 5 days a year).
