Electrical / Electronics Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor/ Offshore Installation Manager (OIM)

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

SUPERVISES:  Chief Electrician/Electrician/Electronics Technician

LOCATION: Offshore Newfoundland
TYPE OF RIG: DP3 Self Propelled, Semi Submersible MODU, 6th Generation RAM Rig
ROTATION: 21/21

JOB SUMMARY:  Supervise the maintenance and repair of all electrical and electronic equipment onboard the vessel

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Electrical Engineering or Electronic Technology degree
  • The candidate must have completed an appropriate course in industrial electrical technology at a recognized training institution, and apprenticeship experience and/or additional training to the equivalent of that required for a Canadian inter-provincial journeyman's certificate
  • Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • 2+ years previous experience in a role with 6th generation semi submersible drilling rig
  • Experience with Kongsberg K-Chief /K-Pos systems
  • Experience from MH Drilling systems with newer control system (Drill view)
  • High voltage and low voltage experience
  • High voltage certificate H-01
  • Experience from DP operations
  • Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the drilling unit
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
    • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background /Pre-Employment Screening Checks.
    • Must have Basic Survival Training, H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS 2015, Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure daily completion of inspections and maintenance on electrical/electronic equipment
  • Enforce the permit to work and isolation system within the electrical/electronic department
  • Ensure the proper implementation of the Rig Maintenance System (RMS)
  • Ensure that the Technical Support Centre (TSC) is advised of electrical issued as required
  • Supervise the operation and service of power generation equipment, i.e. generator and engine controls, SCR's, switchgears, transformers,  power distribution, etc
  • Supervise the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of general rig equipment such as HVAC system, refrigeration plants, power and communication systems, etc
  • Supervise the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical components of drilling equipment, i.e. DC drilling motors and auxiliaries, Top Drive System, mud pumps, etc
  • Supervise the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electronic systems including dynamic positioning, communication, data acquisition, computers and navigational equipment
  • Supervise the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electronic systems including, but not limited to, Subsea BOP controls and drilling package instrumentation and electronics
  • Ensure that all installation, calibration, and modification to electronic systems and components are properly carried out
  • Provide technical support, domestic and industrial electronic services to all areas of the rig
  • Implement the outstanding recommendations from audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management
  • Ensure that reports for repair and maintenance of equipment are accurate and complete
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in supplying information for maintenance and repair budget
  • Communicate equipment problems or breakdown with Field Support  group and equipment vendor
  • Plan periodic maintenance according to the RMS guidelines and coordinate same with supervisor and other department heads
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of spares is maintained onboard to fulfill maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation
  • Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
  • Participate in the START process
  • Ensure that subordinate personnel are properly trained to perform START process
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Company's safety policies through leadership and guidance
  • Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre-tour meetings as required
  • Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to the Maintenance Supervisor and other department heads
  • Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig
  • Meet the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Mentor, develop and train new crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level
  • Ensure that all subordinates have the necessary skills and experience to fulfill their assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Recommend promotions or disciplinary action up to and including discharge
  • Supervise and guide crew members on their On the Job Training (OJT) program
  • Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures
