  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Knowledge of technical calculations required safe operation of drilling unit and basic computer skills.

  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment onboard the vessel



  • Coordinate and ensure that all mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment maintenance and repair is done in a safe and prudent manner
  • Monitor the power plants' controls and power distribution; ensure power is available at all times
  • Ensure that the permit to work and isolation systems are in place and followed
  • Ensure the proper implementation of the Rig Maintenance System (RMS)
  • Operate, maintain and repair as necessary the engine cooling water system, lube oil system, and fuel system
  • Supervise the maintenance and repair of all pumps and valves of the ballast system, thrusters, associated driven pumps and auxiliary equipment
  • Liaise with the marine department regarding the loading, ordering and use of fuel, potable water, and drill water in consideration of the rig's stability
  • Plan equipment periodic maintenance according to the RMS guidelines and coordinate that maintenance with Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer and other department heads
  • Carry out classification society surveys as part of continuous survey of machinery
  • Liaise with the Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer to ensure that all third-party equipment is fit for purpose, certified, correctly installed, and maintained while on the rig
  • Maintain an adequate supply of spares to fulfill maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation
  • Inform the Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig
  • Implement the follow-up requirements to audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management
  • Ensure that reports for repair and maintenance of equipment are accurate and complete
  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer in supplying information for maintenance and repair budget
  • Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to Field Support Group



  • Incorporate the THINK planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
  • Participate daily in START Process
  • Apply START Monitoring during the execution of planned tasks
  • Ensure subordinate personnel are properly trained to perform START observations and monitoring
  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company safety policies through leadership and guidance- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for environmental protection
  • Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre-tour meetings as required Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to the Maintenance Supervisor/Chief Engineer and other department heads
  • Prepare Safety Analysis for hazardous situations
  • Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig
  • Assist in reviewing and updating the current safety case in consultation with rig- and shore-based management



  • Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level - Ensure that all subordinates have the necessary skills and experience to fulfill their assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge
  • Supervise and guide crew members in their On-the-Job Training (OJT) program
  • Ensure company's drug and alcohol policy is strictly enforced
  • Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures
