Tasks and Responsibilities of the Lay System Electrical Supervisor include (but are not limited to):

  • Supervising shift Equipment Technicians in support of project operations, including the operation, repair, and maintenance of the lay system (including reels/carousels, tension machines, winches, product handling cranes, CCTV systems, and Communications systems)
  • Operates the vessel's lay system
  • Assist the Offshore Construction Manager in ensuring that the offshore operations are carried out in an organized and controlled manner, conforming to the company QHS&E requirements
  • Ensuring Equipment Technicians are tasked accordingly, taking due account of their skills and competence.
  • Carry out toolbox talks at the start of each shift and for none standard operations.
  • Reviewing the manner in which equipment is being operated and reporting any activities which may subject the equipment to damage or create unsafe conditions.
  • Ensuring relevant equipment-related matters are brought to the attention of the Lay System Superintendent
  • Immediately  reporting  any  equipment  failure  to  the  Lay  System  Superintendent,  making  aware  that  suspension  of operations may be required.
  • Maintaining the Equipment Shift Log to enable an adequate handover to the oncoming Lay System Shift Supervisor
  • Assisting in commissioning, testing and monitoring of appropriate equipment as required
  • Ensuring that Equipment Technicians wear the appropriate PPE and safety equipment in performance of their duties
  • Ensure that Company Health, Safety, Drugs and Alcohol policies are adhered to at all times.
  • Supervise shift Equipment Technicians in support of project operations, including the operation, repair, and maintenance of relevant onboard project equipment.
  • Ensure applicable Company and Third Party equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Ensure project equipment operations are performed as directed by the Lay System Superintendent, OCM and Vessel Technical Manager.
  • Ensure equipment reporting is performed accurately, expediently and efficiently in accordance with Company procedures.




  • Minimum 10 years' experience working in the offshore construction industry
  • High school graduate
  • Proficiency in navigating and troubleshooting PLCs (Siemens Step 7 with ability to learn to work on Allen Bradley)
  • Experience in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of medium voltage electrical systems (440V to 600V 3-Phase Power)
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of 24V control systems
  • Experience operating flexible or rigid lay systems or similar equipment
  • In possession of relevant trade certificate (Electrical/Subsea)
  • High school graduate
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to lead teams with strong leadership skills
  • Valid Offshore Medical
  • BOSIET Training or Equivalent (OPITO standard)
  • Fluent both in spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of DP Vessel operations
