JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Tasks and Responsibilities of the Lay System Superintendent include (but are not limited to):

  • Supervising shift Equipment Technicians in support of project operations, including the operation, repair, and maintenance of the lay system (including reels/carousels, tension machines, winches, product handling cranes, CCTV systems, and Communications systems)
  • Assist the Offshore Construction Manager in ensuring that the offshore operations are carried out in an organized and controlled manner, conforming to the company QHS&E requirements
  • Ensuring Equipment Technicians are tasked accordingly, taking due account of their skills and competence.
  • Carry out toolbox talks at the start of each shift and for none standard operations.
  • Reviewing the manner in which equipment is being operated and reporting any activities which may
  • subject the equipment to damage or create unsafe conditions.
  • Ensuring relevant equipment-related matters are brought to the attention of the onshore Vessel Technical
  • Manager, including Company technical documentation requiring to be updated, i.e. Operation and Maintenance Manuals, Drawings, Circuit Diagrams, etc.
  • Ensuring relevant equipment records are maintained and electronic copies are kept onboard and passed on to the technician team.
  • Monitoring the usage of relevant spares and consumables required to facilitate repair and maintenance activities. Advising Vessel Technical Manager of spares required, in order to maintain stock level.
  • Immediately reporting any equipment failure to the OCM, making aware that suspension of operations may be required.
  • Advising the OCM of the anticipated duration of repairs required and the operational constraints on continuing activities with faulty equipment.
  • Maintaining the Equipment Shift Log to enable an adequate handover to the oncoming Lay System Superintendent
  • Assisting in commissioning, testing and monitoring of appropriate equipment as required
  • Ensuring that Equipment Technicians wear the appropriate PPE and safety equipment in performance of their duties
  • Ensure that Company Health, Safety, Drugs and Alcohol policies are adhered to at all times.
  • Supervise shift Equipment Technicians in support of project operations, including the operation, repair, and maintenance of relevant onboard project equipment.
  • Ensure applicable Company and Third Party equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Ensure project equipment operations are performed as directed by the OCM and Vessel Technical Manager.
  • Ensure equipment reporting is performed accurately, expediently and efficiently in accordance with Company procedures.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Minimum 15 years' experience working in the offshore construction industry
  • Extended knowledge in Marine and Subsea operations with experience operating flexible or rigid product lay systems
  • High school graduate
  • Ability to lead teams with strong leadership and communication skills
  • In possession of relevant trade certificate (Electrical/Mechanical/Subsea)
  • Valid Offshore Medical
  • BOSIET Training or Equivalent (OPITO standard)
  • Fluent both in spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of DP Vessel Operations
