Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Workforce Safety Engineer located in Houston, TX or San Ramon, CA through October 29, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).
Overview:
As a Senior Workforce Safety Engineer located in Chevron’s Energy Technology Company, you will provide technical expertise in workforce safety implementation for Chevron’s businesses.  This will include identifying and developing strategic solutions to workforce safety risks with wide-ranging benefits to Chevron’s Operating Companies. 
Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute technical aspects of Managing Safe Work and related Safe Work Practices in operations and projects.
  • Review equipment and job tasks to identify areas where there is a high likelihood of human error and identify solutions that optimize the operator’s performance.  
  • Identify and apply technology solutions and other controls to mitigate safety risk to workers - personal protective equipment, administrative controls and design/engineering controls.
  • Conduct facility reviews for safety engineering issues.
  • Provide emergency response support, including the ability to qualify in NIMS Incident Command System as a Safety Officer, and including the ability to be deployed with little lead time globally for up to three-week rotations in the event of a major incident.
  • Develop, review and update technical standards pertaining to workforce safety.
  • Lead workforce safety training continual improvement; develop and deliver safety training courses such as Construction Safety and Managing Safe Work.
  • Represent Chevron in appropriate in industry forums and committees.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or engineering discipline.
  • 5 years of oil and gas or petrochemical experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%, including internationally.
  • Awareness of industrial ergonomics and/or human factors principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with workforce safety/safety engineering, practices and processes. 
  • Direct experience in risk management or decision-making associated with cranes and rigging/lifting, confined space entry and permitting, electrical safety, fall protection systems, excavations, permitting, and hot work.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team, work collaboratively with peers, coach and mentor others on workforce safety technical issues and strategies to integrate practical solutions.
  • Ability to understand regulatory and compliance requirements and influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding and implementation of relevant OSHA, equivalent safety regulations/best practices and Chevron requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PHD degree in HES or engineering discipline.
  • CSP or equivalent certification preferred
  • 10 years of oil and gas or petrochemical experience
  • Emergency Response Safety Officer (NIMS) including up to ICS 404 Advanced safety Officer and/or experience as a Safety Officer in Incident Command
