Job Description

Bring us your analytical flair and experience of the European power market and we'll give you chance to be part of a highly valued team, providing expert support to our trading operation.

What's the role?

You'll join our seven-strong Shell Energy Europe Market Risk team who take care of the oversight and support of our European Gas & Power and Global Environmental Products Trading businesses. Based in London, you'll enjoy plenty of collaboration with traders and colleagues across the world of Shell, especially in Commercial, IT, Finance and Accounting.

You'd become our go-to expert on the European Power business, delivering all market risk reporting and controls, accurately and on time. Beyond that, you'll use your initiative to identify improvements to our reporting capabilities and modelling, and to develop new reporting metrics and methodologies. You'll also play a leading role in supporting new business and short- and long-term Business or Market Risk projects.

Our people are our greatest asset, and our commitment to your career will see you thrive in a work environment that offers an industry-leading development programme. When your ideas travel, Shell will benefit and innovation will thrive. We are the largest FTSE 100 company in the UK by market capitalisation, and make a significant contribution to the UK economy. As well as processing 35% of the gas coming into the UK, we serve more than four million customers at our filling stations each week. Shell employs some 6,400 skilled staff as well as many contractors.

Requirements

What we need from you

You've worked in a market risk analyst role before, so you'll be aware that this is a job for enterprising, enquiring men and women with sharp analytical skills and supreme attention to detail. To fit in with our tight-knit team, you'll need to convince us you can work independently, employing your initiative to make sound decisions, time after time.

On top of that, you'll need:

  • Experience of the European Power markets
  • Strong Excel skills; VBA/Macro skills an advantage.
  • Proficient in ETRM systems; familiarity with Aligne ideal.

Life moves at pace here; you'll need to be at your best working against an ever-changing backdrop. If you're apprehensive about juggling multiple priorities and managing tight deadlines, this isn't the job for you. We find our best analysts are confident communicators with natural relationship-building skills; you'll need to interact with - and challenge - traders every single day.

Women's perspective

We care deeply about fostering a truly diverse workplace. We believe in doing everything we can to make Shell as flexible, appealing and supportive a place for women to work as possible. And we've retained our title as a top employer for women in the Times again in 2017.

We help with things like our formal (and informal) flexible working. Like our global and transparent pay policies backed by a leadership team fully supportive of our diversity ambitions. And we'll help foster your career through our Women's Career Development programme and our extensive Women's Network.

People with an impairment

At Shell, we're all about top talent. End of story. We want to encourage those of you who may face an impairment to regard Shell as a place where you'll be fully supported to grow and develop your career. It's as simple as that.

If you'd like to apply, just let us know about your circumstances. We can support you throughout the process. From application, to interview, to your first day of a rewarding career with us.
