JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Manage EPC projects and mechanical design/evaluation assignments within an industrial facility from concept to commissioning. Demonstrates strong leadership skills to ensure that "fit for purpose, cost effective" project solutions are adequately designed and delivered on time and within budget. Should be comfortable managing projects up to $10 million TIC value using a stage gate project development and project execution approach.
POSITION EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of relative project engineering experience, five (5) years of which should be in a heavy industrial facility as a mechanical project engineer. Possesses a BSME degree from an accredited university, PE or PMP certification is preferred. Knowledgeable of piping, static and rotating equipment is required as well as project development and execution experience in a stage gate environment.
Reports directly to the site's Engineering Manager. Maintains regular contact with the department's other Project Engineers, along with the site's Purchasing, Operations, and Maintenance personnel as it pertains to project development and execution. May lead projects as well as provide lead mechanical support to larger capital projects. Requires periodic interaction with various suppliers, operations, engineering consultants, construction coordinators and contractor field supervision.
Capable of serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for the facility's rotating, static and pressure piping systems.
Possesses a strong working knowledge of applicable industry mechanical codes, especially ANSI, API, B31.1, and B31.3 and has the capability of incorporating that knowledge in project design solutions.
Provides mechanical design support to other project engineers or on larger capital projects.
Possesses strong technical writing capabilities, reporting and presentation skills. Prepares regular project reports and presentations to project stakeholders and senior management. Can effectively communicate with management, operations and maintenance
Capable of managing design, scheduling and estimating efforts which are outsourced to external engineering firms. Can be counted upon to administer these contracts at the lowest possible cost to the Company. Should be familiar with value engineering, estimating, engineering and EPC metrics, earned value, progress and productivity measures within an EPC setting (SPI, CPI, and TCPI) and in accordance with IPA/CII guidelines.
Possesses an ability to develop project scopes, deliverables and schedules needed to implement the work whether it's designed internally or forwarded to an external design firm. Develop RFQ/RFP packages for mechanical procurement and subcontracts as well as technical evaluation of mechanical, engineering and construction proposals.
Participates in equipment failure investigations and takes the lead on developing and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
Incorporates Noranda's safety/procurement policies and procedures in all project design solutions.
Ensures that project work scopes are adequately supported with installation packages, control budgets and baselined schedules that contain sufficient specifications, detailed information and construction drawings.
Capable of creating and updating plant mechanical standards.
(a) Possesses an ability to work with Microsoft Office software. Primavera P6 or MS Project knowledge a plus.
(b) Normal work week with be Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Position may require spot overtime to support plant and project needs.
(c) Will be required to obtain MSHA safety training and TWIC.
