Overview:
 
The Tax Counsel position will provide tax planning advice on a wide variety of tax issues affecting Chevron's businesses. The position reports to the Manager, Houston Tax Planning and Property Tax.
Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide tax planning advice on a wide variety of tax issues affecting Chevron's U.S. businesses.
  • Primary focus is on federal corporate taxation, with a significant focus on Chevron's domestic oil and gas operations and marketing/trading of crude oil, refined products and natural gas.
  • Interfacing with company personnel in Chevron's operating divisions, other areas of Corporate Tax and Finance, and Corporate Legal.
  • Advising management of tax implications of proposed business transactions.
  • Handling complex tax issues affecting domestic oil and gas operations and marketing/trading of crude oil, refined, and natural gas.
  • Assist with the analysis of transfer pricing aspects of business initiatives, expansions, and transactions.
  • Provide guidance with Internal Revenue Code and Regulations.  


Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • J.D. (Law)
  • Minimum 5 years of Corporate Federal Income Tax planning experience
  • Strong knowledge of Internal Revenue Code and Regulations
  • Strong tax research and tax analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Self-starter with outstanding interpersonal skills

 


Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • LLM or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Extensive experience with complex tax issues in the domestic oil and gas industry

  • Extensive experience with U.S. transfer pricing tax issues
