Duties & Responsibilities

This is a multi-role position, supporting Oceaneering’s Survey Services EMEA Region. Primarily, the Marine Construction and support of other service lines (AUV, C-NAV, GEO) as and when operational workload dictates.

General Survey Workshop duties (ensuring hardware and software ISO compliance, testing and preparing systems for offshore use, leading vessel mobilisations, offering field technical support, inventory control, procurement, onshore Survey team technical support, etc) are performed on a daily basis.

Adherence to strict QHSE policies and procedures is of utmost importance, irrespective of which service line is being supported, and shall be exhibited on a continual basis.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Ensures Standard Product Line processes are in place, followed and maintained to improve safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Performs STOP audits as part of Oceaneering’s safety program

  • Inspects shop facilities to determine proper utilization and maintenance and adherence to our safety program.

  • Manage electronics technicians, schedule workload and coordinate priorities.

  • Ensure all equipment is properly checked and preventative maintenance performed in order to provide maximum equipment availability and minimum down time.

  • Installation of equipment in line with the client’s specification and mobilisation procedures

  • Attend vessel mobilisations

  • Track and document equipment usage for billing purposes.

  • Maintain inventory and stock levels of all equipment, safety gear and consumables for field jobs.

  • Provide the managers with current availability of equipment and stock to support field operations.

  • Stage equipment and stock for vessels as requested by the managers.

  • Provide market research and technical evaluations for equipment purchases.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This job is responsible for leading Survey Services Workshop personnel or offshore field personnel in the performance of their essential duties and responsibilities. Typical responsibilities may include counseling of technical personnel, input to performance evaluations and promotions, and participation in applicant interviewing and selection process.

This position requires working frequently outdoors during the day and occasionally at night. The job will also require working indoors during the day and occasionally at night. The job will occasionally be performed in confined spaces and at elevated heights. Frequently the employee will be required to move equipment and will frequently be near vibrating equipment. The employee frequently works on a stable work surface and will operate a motor vehicle. The employee must frequently be around loud noise, over 85 decibels and occasionally under intense light/glare. The employee will frequently work with arms extended below waist, unsupported and frequently with elbows flexed, wrist supported and unsupported. They will frequently climb stairs and ladders. They will frequently stoop, kneel, and squat. Their work will frequently involve their body twisting and occasionally will work on their back and stomach. Occasionally they will crawl. Their environment frequently includes a rapid working pace, as well as repetitive movements, manual dexterity, a sense of touch and depth perception needed.

They will occasionally be exposed to airborne contaminants such as fumes, mists, dust, and gases.

They will constantly stand and walk on a flat surface. The employee must occasionally sit with back supported and sit on vibrating equipment. They must frequently have their head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated, arms extended overhead, unsupported and supported, and arms extended below waist, supported. They constantly need to speak clearly, hear in all ranges. Be able to read and see at a distance.

The employee must exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work. This will be considered Medium Work.

The will occasionally require a respirator/breathing apparatus and body protection. They must frequently have hearing protection, head protection, and gloves for the hands. Frequently protect the skin from heat and chemicals. The employee must constantly have eye protection and steel/safety toed shoes/boots.

Education and/or Experience

Preferably educated to HNC level or above, in Electronics, Information Technology or other cognate subject or alternatively a related vocational field. Five (5) to ten (10) years related experience each in both Survey and DGNSS disciplines.

Must have strong digital and power electrical experience, testing and troubleshooting experience. Must be proficient with survey positioning and hydrographic equipment.



Language Skills


Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills and Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Requires thorough knowledge of RS-232 and RS-485 communications systems. Board level and surface mount soldering is a requisite for assembling and troubleshooting “in house” PC boards. Must comprehend power electronics including 120 VAC, 240 VAC and 480 VAC 3 phase.

Ability to pay strict attention to detail and have excellent troubleshooting skills, to include assembly level and in-circuit PC board troubleshooting. Must have complete familiarity with standard test equipment to include o-scopes, Meggers, VOM's, as well bench digital function generators and meters. Knowledge of ROV systems is advantageous. Knowledge of LabView, SolidWorks and AutoCad are advantageous.

Demonstrated leadership ability is a must.
