We are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer (Hydraulics) for our growing Fluid Power & Process Control (FPPC) team in Glasgow to carry out the design of hydraulic systems and manage projects from enquiry to delivery. Responsibilities include the specification of equipment and producing all associated bills of material, drawings and calculations to meet client requirements. You will also be responsible for overseeing the fabrication / factory acceptance tests and commissioning of equipment.

Essential Qualifications/Experience/Competencies

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Hydraulic power and control system design with the ability to carry out fluid flow hand calculations
  • Component selection
  • Competent in producing hydraulic schematic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of industry specification and standards
  • Competent in producing P&ID's and fabrication drawings.
  • 2D & 3D CAD (Autodesk)
  • Hydraulic design
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good administration and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional and focused approach at all times.
  • Attention to detail.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience/Competencies

  • Chartered Status or working towards this.
  • Hands on workshop experience.
  • Knowledge of MathCad
  • Knowledge of Welding processes and standards.
  • Oil & gas Experience
  • FAT and Commissioning experience
  • Electrical control systems
  • DNV, ATEX, PED, CE Marking and machinery directive
  • Flow assurance
  • Design of offshore hydraulic control equipment.
  • Control panel design.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

Technical Duties

  • Design of hydraulic control systems and their associated packages, specifying all necessary equipment and components, assisting in the creation of quotations and compilation of appropriate bills of material.
  • Ensure on time delivery of design packs that provide safe, economic, engineered solutions, in accordance with processes and procedures and in compliance with all relevant codes and/or standards.
  • Strive for 'right first time' design & build completion and the support of a 'zero defects' mentality to both safety & quality.
  • Produce economic 'fit for purpose' engineered solutions, considering all aspects from the user to manufacturability, that maximises profitably whilst satisfying all client and internal requirements.
  • Liaise with clients to establish and confirm precise Engineering requirements and liaise with other departments in support of design for 'manufacture' & design for 'supply chain' criteria. While ensuring clarity of understanding of all client/project requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance, during all engineering and related activities, with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards
  • Technically manage projects and product introduction to ensure best chance of successful on time & on budget completion.
  • Participate in project design reviews.
  • Actively participate in project planning both prior to client submission and through delivery phase of a project.
  • Review ongoing lessons learned from previous projects to ensure continuous learning cycle maintained and that mistakes are not repeated.
  • Liaise with suppliers on technical and engineering matters and with other Hydrasun departments to ensure a consistent application of best practice and business ideas.
  • Ensure knowledge of industry developments is kept up to date while also ensuring activities within the Engineering team meet agreed target completion dates.

Administration / CPD

  • Maintain filing / admin / databases up to date on a continuous basis.
  • Take responsibility for knowing and understanding the Engineering department's targets and objectives as well as knowing and understanding the overall company targets and objectives.
  • Adhere to the procedures as defined by the HSE Management System and Quality Management System.
  • Follow the procedures as laid down by the Human Resource Management System and take an active part in the performance management process, competence and training programme.
