Position Overview: Responsible for the procurement, make-ready, distribution and retirement of Heavy or Light Equipment assets; ensures all documentation associated with the purchase or disposal of equipment is complete with proper approval levels.

Reports to: Area Manager, District Manager or Equipment Superintendent

Directs Reports: None

Major duties:

  • Researches and prepares technical specifications for equipment assets
  • Estimates vehicle outfitting/customizing requirements
  • Interprets, explains and evaluates specifications and bids to vendors and users
  • Coordinates the bidding and award processes, and provides information on specifications
  • Reviews maintenance and cost data and recommends appropriate disposition of vehicles
  • Coordinates vehicle and equipment assignment with region operations
  • Reviews existing fleet and equipment to determine if new equipment or vehicle modification is necessary to ensure compliance with market needs, federal or state fleet laws and codes, or fleet performance expectations
  • Prepares the Vehicle Replacement Budget
  • Facilitates equipment disposal auction processes, ensuring equipment and all associated documentation is prepared timely
  • Analyzes condition of equipment to identify optimum disposition, whether repair or disposal; recommends appropriate disposal method
  • Monitors idle or under-utilized equipment to determine all options available for filling equipment needs at any Basic location; facilitates asset transfers and exchanges as appropriate
  • Evaluates repair status of vehicles involved in accidents, ensuring repairs are made and documented appropriately
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent education
  • 2-4 years’ experience in equipment procurement, sales, or fleet management
  • Ability to use a computer to create documents and reports; familiarity with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work successfully with cross-functional business and operations groups
  • Ability to build and maintain effective external supplier relationships
  • Ability to multi-task, set appropriate priorities and follow up incomplete assignments to accomplish work assignments timely
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally or in writing to present ideas and suggestions
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to complete tasks efficiently
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as well as background check


Preferred:

  • Bilingual (Spanish & English)
  • Some college work toward Business or related career field


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use hands for typing and writing


Typical working conditions and hazards:

  • Work is performed in all weather conditions
  • Able to perform duties with protective equipment, H2S respirator where required
  • Potential hazards include working near or with heavy tools and moving machinery
  • Potential exposure to loud noises, airborne toxins, solvents, flammable atmospheres and industrial chemicals
