The Downstream Manufacturing site at Moerdijk makes chemical products made from petroleum and is one of the largest chemical sites in the Netherlands and Europe. It's a key strategic site which includes a Naphtha cracker complex, two Styrene/Propylene Oxide plants, an Ethylene Oxide and derivatives plant, utilities, and general facilities. The site employs around 830 Shell staff and 500 contract staff.
Moerdijk is a modern and fully integrated manufacturing plant and presents a wide range of professional and managerial challenges and opportunities. And we are currently working towards realising our vision: "Together we outrun the European competition."

An ideal role for a civil engineer with petrochemical experience who wants to tackle diverse and engaging projects in a positive, team-focused environment working for Europe’s leading chemical manufacturer.
Where you fit in
You’ll join Shell Nederland Chemie (SNC) Europe’s leading chemical manufacturing company. Our manufacturing assets span two locations, Moerdijk and Pernis, linked by a 35km long pipeline corridor. It’s a positive place to work, where our strong team spirit and flat management structure help us to achieve operational excellence and uphold engineering expertise.
What’s the role?
Based at Moerdijk, you’ll be part of a ten-strong team of men and women in our Civil Engineering & Surveying department. Your role is to provide assurance for the chemical plants, from managing existing large civil programmes and supporting maintenance, smaller projects and turnarounds. You’ll enjoy a wide remit – you can expect to be involved in work including: jetty works, fire proofing, drainage systems, governmental programmes, refractory issues, design of buildings (incl. planning permission), onshore facilities layout, flares/stacks, rail/road transport, tank farms, environmental support, and coating and insulation (Fabric) issues.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll provide technical support to our four production areas, Loading/Dispatch and general facilities. You’ll give recommendations that provide a balanced technical view of the possible options and create consensus across the site and with other Shell organisations.

What we need from you
You’ll call on a BSc in civil engineering (or equivalent) coupled with a solid background working in the petrochemical industry. You’ve proven you’re adept in civil engineering, maintenance and inspection techniques and have credible technical expertise; your engineering, maintenance and operational understanding is excellent.
Experience aside, we’re looking for a champion for their subject – someone who’s exciting about breaking new ground and enhancing our service provision. To do that, you’ll need a proven ability to facilitate great teamwork – you’ll be in your element influencing and coaching to bring out the best in others. Add to that first-class communication skills, both in Dutch and in English and we’d like to talk to you.
