On behalf of a UK client, we are looking for a Chief Engineer. Applicants must hold a UK Passport or UK work permit.
Role Overview:
The Chief Engineer has overall responsibility for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all machinery, engineering systems, and technical functions onboard the jack-up barge. This includes power generation, hydraulic jacking systems, and mission-critical equipment supporting offshore windfarm installation and maintenance activities. The Chief Engineer ensures full compliance with UK maritime regulations, class requirements, and company policies, while leading the engineering team and maintaining operational readiness at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Take full responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and performance of all engine room and technical systems onboard
Lead, manage, and supervise the engineering department, including Second Engineer and junior engineers
Oversee maintenance, repair, and reliability of power generation systems, electrical distribution, auxiliary machinery and support systems
Manage hydraulic systems, including jack-up legs and lifting equipment
Maintain HVAC and accommodation (hotel) services systems
Ensure the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is fully implemented, monitored, and audited
Plan and manage maintenance schedules, dry dockings, and major repairs
Ensure safe and efficient execution of jacking and preloading operations
Act as the technical authority during fault-finding, troubleshooting, and emergency situations
Maintain control of fuel, lubricants, and critical spares, ensuring adequate inventory levels
Prepare and manage the engineering budget and cost control measures
Ensure compliance with UK maritime and MCA regulations, class and flag state requirements, ISM Code and company SMS
Lead risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, and safety procedures within the engineering department
Liaise with the Master/OIM, clients, contractors, and external inspectors; support audits and inspections
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, and environmental protection onboard
Qualifications & Requirements:
Certifications:
STCW III/2 - Chief Engineer Officer (Unlimited or appropriate for vessel class)
Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates
ENG1 (or equivalent) medical certificate
Designated Security Duties (DSD) certification
High Voltage (management level preferred)
DP Maintenance Certificate (desirable, depending on vessel operations)
Relevant UK work eligibility
Experience:
Proven experience as Chief Engineer or senior engineering officer onboard offshore vessels
Extensive experience on jack-up vessels or similar offshore units
Strong background in diesel-electric power generation, high-voltage electrical systems, hydraulic and jacking systems (essential)
