Overview / Responsibilities

Wood requires a Senior Instrument Designer to join an established engineering and design team to support CSL in their onshore and offshore gas storage operations on an initial 6 month contract.

Senior I&C Designers shall have an in depth working knowledge of instrument and control equipment as well as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD. As required, they shall travel to job site / factory to undertake constructability review, measurements, installation check and surveys, etc. to suit specific project / client.

As instructed by, and in conjunction with the Senior Instrument and Control Engineers or other designated engineers, carries out detailed instrument and control design work as may be required which will include but will not be limited to the following:
  • Consult with and take direction from assigned engineering personnel as may be required
  • Once specifications have been developed by the engineers, plan and develop detailed design documents and drawings
  • Adopt safe attitudes towards engineering design and identify features affecting the safety and integrity of the design
  • To attend project meetings as required / instructed
  • To ensure that estimated design man hours are professionally managed in order to achieve project / company expectations
  • Undertake review and signature check of appropriate design documents generated by other designers
  • To partake in duties associated with document management and archiving in accordance with company / client requirements
  • To undertake detailed surveys to identify appropriate design solutions
  • Maintain and develop understanding of relevant technology, codes and standards
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures


Workscope:
  • Achieve safety standards as defined in personal performance contract
  • Responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems
  • Carry out work in accordance with company and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems
  • Maintain the required technical quality of work
  • Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with Change Control Process
  • Carry out designs in line with relevant procedures, standards and regulations
  • Ensure, as far as practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule
  • Keep up to date with technical developments, National and International standards and legislative requirements
  • Maintain good communication with the Site Responsible Engineers and comfortable to lead site survey activities
  • Experience of working on Brownfield Operational Sites


Skills / Qualifications

  • ONC or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject
  • Experience of relevant codes and standards including BS 7671, IEC 61511, ATEX, DSEAR, CDM 2015, etc
  • Knowledge and understanding of control systems, such as DCS, PLC's, SCADA, etc
  • Conversant with codes of practice, standards, relevant sections of statutory documentation applicable to draughting function
  • Conversant with company quality control assurance requirements applicable to draughting function
  • Experience within the oil and gas, petrochemical or power generation sectors
  • Able to create base design drawings / models from agreed work scope with minimal input from engineering personnel
  • Experienced designer with sound technical background and strong knowledge of manual and CAD draughting techniques
  • Ability to accept delegated responsibility and control budgets for delegated tasks
  • Computer literate (database / spreadsheets)
  • Able to provide draughting checking function as directed by lead designer
