JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated material scientist to join our research and development team focused on energy storage. The ideal candidate will be a multidisciplinary individual with a background in chemistry, material science and/or engineering. The material scientist will develop, characterize, and test novel graphene formulations for batteries and capacitors. This is an interdisciplinary position requiring a willingness to investigate novel ideas in a dynamic environment with other scientists and engineers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, synthesize and test novel material formulations for batteries and capacitors.
- Characterize materials using a variety of analytical techniques including, X-ray diffraction, FTIR and electron microscopy
- Evaluate the performance of new materials for capacity, stability and cycle rates
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address technical challenges related to introducing new materials into batteries and capacitors
- Maintain accurate records of synthesis and characterization activities, prepare reports and present results
- Stay current with industrial trends and academic advances in battery and capacitor development
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance technical, safety and professional skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering or related field preferred. Will consider master's degree with 3 years of experience or bachelor's degree with 5 plus years of experience in a related industrial setting
- Knowledge and understanding of battery and capacitor materials including electrode active material, slurry fabrication process, cell assembly and pouch sealing, testing, failure mode analysis, data analysis and documentation
- At least 2-3 years of experience with material synthesis and characterization related to energy storage
- Hands on expertise with standard synthetic techniques including aqueous chemistry, organic/organometallic chemistry and/or inert atmosphere techniques
- Experience with analytical techniques such as NMR, Raman, UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD and EM
- Ability to design and execute well controlled experiments, analyze and interpret data, and draw conclusions from results
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Commitment to safety and quality
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
- The primary location for this position is an office environment.
- Able to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Rig yard trips may be expected from time to time.
