Overview / Responsibilities Wood has an immediate need for a Senior People & Organisation (P&O) Business Partner to join our Melbourne office supporting a mix of blue and white-collar workforces in both Australia and PNG. This is a permanent role within the P&O team supporting the Wood Team on a long-standing Oil &Gas client Contract. Reporting directly to the P&O Manager (APAC East) and operationally to the Contract Assignment Manager you will be instrumental in providing leadership and support on all people related matters across your geographically diverse Australian & PNG portfolio by delivering strategic, advisory, and operational HR services. Your responsibility will be across the employee life cycle of on-boarding, retention, remuneration, engagement, employee relations, employment law and learning and development. You will engage centres of expertise and shared services to enable each business unit to both own and drive their respective HR strategies and processes successfully.
Responsibilities Your challenge will be the ongoing alignment of HR strategy with Business strategy across your Australian & PNG business portfolio to ensure all HR requirements are met both functionally and operationally to meet the needs to the Wood business and our valued client. You will work to maintain consistency within the function and support line management with:
- Management of the P&O Team working on the Australian and PNG Contract
- Continuous updates of P&O policies associated with the contracts
- development of workforce planning
- talent management and succession plans
- identification of employees for leadership development
- employee relations
- compensation and benefits advice
- execution of business cultural and change initiatives, and identification of learning opportunities
- initiating organisation structure changes, people movements, changes to employee conditions of employment and terminations. Completion of P&O reporting at both the contract and functional level
Skills / Qualifications You will be a suitably qualified HR Business Partner with a minimum of 7 years proven experience within the Oil and Gas / Mining / Construction market sectors. You are a trusted business partner to both managers and team leadership; understanding their people, vision, values, and business needs, with expertise on how to best navigate challenges and seize opportunities. With a career as diverse as it is deep, your well-rounded generalist experience will position you to proactively identify and deliver considered HR interventions and solutions to meet evolving business needs.
What will set you apart will be your relevant experience within the Oil and Gas / Mining / Construction sectors across both white and blue-collar industry sectors. Knowledge of HR Practice in a Papua New Guinea context will be advantageous.
In addition, you will have:
- exceptional client facing skills with proven experience coaching and challenging leadership and their teams towards high performance
- effective communication skills, be engaging, demonstrate resilience and open to using innovative ideas and an agile approach to deliver the best possible outcomes
- extensive knowledge of all aspects of employment law, employee relations, policies, and procedures
- experience of successfully developing, leading, and implementing strategy, policy and operational plans
- experience in organisational development, succession planning, talent management and managing salary review processes
- experience in identifying and delivering P&O interventions and solutions to meet business needs
- commercial awareness and business acumen supported with strong excel and data interrogation skills
- ability to work under pressure when necessary, while still delivering within a challenging and complex environment
- a "solutions mindset" and able to manage varying tasks with often changing and competing priorities
