Shell is expanding its upstream oil and gas operations in the Sultanate of Oman which will include drilling of exploration, appraisal and development wells, and field development studies. The Development Planner will be responsible for technical integration (subsurface, wells, facilities) and the technical-economic interface, providing support for the pragmatic application of standards (notably Opportunity Realization Standard) and expected practices (Project Management Framework).

  • Coordinate with the Front-End Development Manager , Managers and leads to ensure technical integration and alignment.
  • Keep the Opportunity Frame and Project Premises up to date
  • Coordinate Competitive Concept Identification (Staircase of options with associated risks, uncertainties and trade-offs)
  • Coordinate the Integrated Decision Based Planning, focussing work on the development decisions, ensuring continued integration and alignment across technical disciplines (subsurface, wells, facilities), applying Continuous Improvement practices:
    • Setting ambitious targets
    • Create short intervals for action
    • Make granular performance transparent
  • Model (e.g. PetroVR) integrated development scenarios (Subsurface / Wells / Surface / Cost / Schedule / Economics) and associated risks and uncertainties to support decision making
  • Assess Front End Loading and plan gap closure
  • Plan and coordinate Project Controls and Assurance
  • Plan and coordinate delivery of the integrated development deliverables
  • Manage the interfaces with the economist
  • Coach and develop graduate engineers
  • Participate in Community of Practice, pursue assessment for accreditation under Shell Projects Academy and pursue front-end training
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of the Shell-operated venture in Oman

What we need from You
  • Candidates must carry the nationality of the Sultanate of Oman.
  • Minimum MSc University Degree
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in the upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Must have experience with upstream development planning in the front-end, working with subsurface and facilities disciplines.
  • Must have experience interfacing with economists.
  • Must have reservoir engineering competencies
  • Strong team player with corresponding inter-personal skills.
  • Effective communicator and influencer.
  • High degree of achievement drive and initiative.

The following experience will be an advantage:
  • Development planning.
  • Facilitation of structured events like opportunity framing and concept identification.
  • PetroVR or equivalent integrated development modelling tools.
  • Competitive scoping, value engineering, Lean, continuous improvement or comparable practices.
  • Experience with tight gas and/or unconventional developments.
