WHERE YOU FIT IN
Aligned with Shell's corporate ambition of becoming a carbon neutral energy business by 2050, the Shell "Projects and Technology" (P&T) Motorsport team is driving the R&D activities in all motorsport series that Shell has partnered with, providing breakthrough performance via racing products and supporting the ambition for net zero carbon activities on and off the track. This includes the partnership with Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1 and Ducati Corse in MotoGP and World Superbike (WSBK) competitions. Shell is working closely with its partners to develop the next generation of low carbon racing fuels and deliver innovations that will contribute to the decarbonisation of the sport.
WHAT IS THE ROLE
The Motorsport & Logistics Project Lead is a key role in supporting this journey. The position reports to the Delivery Manager Motorsport and owns two separated but still interconnected key areas in the Motorsport activities: leads development programmes for racing fuels and oils in collaboration with our partner and leads all logistic planning and activities, overseeing timely delivery of racing products to the factories and racetracks around the globe.
The product technical development programme in Motorsport is based on a detailed understanding of fuel/oil impact on engine performance and sound chemical knowledge with basics of combustion chemistry and modelling, and is developed in close contact and with the partners' technical teams. Collaboration within Shell (relevant domain expertise teams) and outside of Shell (suppliers and motorsport partners) is key to deliver competitive racing products. In addition to product development, the role includes leading the logistic operations, which focuses on managing and coordinating the timely delivery of the products at the racetrack according to race calendars for the series Shell is supporting (F1, MotoGP, WSBK, etc.), and driving the contractual relation with logistic partners and hauliers. Providing flexible and ad-hoc logistic options for the delivery of dedicated test products at our partners' factories is also key, as the engine tests performed with experimental samples are at the foundation of the product development process.
Other key competence areas include cooperation and management of contracts, building and maintaining market intelligence on fuel stream suppliers, quick thinking and problem solving, and building a solid and trusted network of contacts with the logistics partners. The role leverages a very close and strategic Motorsport partnership, with a key action in jointly building a transparent development and test plans. Therefore, good organisational, project management and communication skills are helpful to ensure a successful planning and delivery.
Finally, the role can include or develop in supporting the Strategic Partnership team with communications campaigns and programs, with focus on generating the key technical elements which support the energy transition messages and decarbonisation strategy of Motorsport.
