Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for an E&I Onshore Support Lead Engineer with extensive experience in the offshore oil and gas industry.

The position is based onshore in Equatorial Guinea, based within the onshore client facility providing support to the client offshore operations and maintenance activities.

The existing offshore facilities comprise of an FPSO, several fixed structures and several floating structures. Subsea wells are tied back to the FPSO for processing, storage and offtake. Subsea and dry tree wells are processed on the floating and fixed structures. Stabilized crude is pumped from the fixed and floating structures to the FPSO for storage and offtake.

The position is rotational, working a 5 weeks on / 5 weeks off rotation.

The Electrical and Instrument Engineer is the in-country Asset focal point and technical authority for all electrical equipment, and in liaison with the Automation Engineer, all instrument equipment. The position is responsible for refining established, and creation of new, maintenance procedures to enable the offshore maintenance teams to perform effective maintenance on all electrical and instrumentation equipment. The position is required to provide engineering support from design through completion for minor modifications and be the focal point of any dialogue for major engineering projects, as part of the client's Management of Change process. He/she is also the owner of performance standards, Electrical Safety Rules, high level maintenance strategies through FMEA, written schemes of examination and holds primary responsibility for all matters relating to electrical safety.

The roles and responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer include:

Prime Duties & Responsibilities;

  • Provide electrical and instrumentation technical support for day to day activities, with practical assistance on the offshore assets as required;
  • Provide technical advice to Asset Management on all matters related to electrical and instrumentation equipment on the installations. It is expected that collaboration with other company resources will be required for cross-functional issues;
  • Organisation and planning of campaign maintenance and vendor mobilisations, as required;
  • Take personal responsibility for promoting and supporting continuous improvement activities within all aspects of the business under their sphere of influence;
  • Development of relationships with external customers to the mutual benefit of the asset owners;
  • Interface with 3 rd parties to provide best fit solutions and early maintainability input into designs of major projects;
  • Management and development of a range of assigned Support Service Contracts and specialist services;
  • Identification of recurring problems and issues and provision of feedback for continuous improvement through root cause analysis whilst delivering technical solutions to identified problems.
  • Provide input to the assessment and mitigation of risk;
  • Providing input / advice on materials control and routine spares;
  • Review and improvement of maintenance strategies and routines in line with 'world class maintenance philosophy and industry best practice;
  • Effective application of the client Corporate Policies and Principles to the business benefit;
  • Monitoring, measurement and review of all significant aspects of the business that influence performance and achievement of targets;
  • Deliver HS & E and business performance targets;
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment and fostering a culture where health, safety and the environment are not compromised.
  • Accurate and timely response and closure to all verification and HSE actions.
  • Provision of temporary offshore cover, where applicable;
  • Membership of the onshore asset emergency response team;
  • Deliver accurate and concise reports on incidents and equipment failure involving electrical and instrumentation equipment resulting from Root Cause Failure Analysis Investigations
  • Involvement with and leadership in sections of the competency improvement of offshore asset teams.
  • Involvement with, and leadership in, sections of the Nationalisation programs


Skills / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates Engineering Degree


Industry Experience and knowledge:
  • Several years previous experience extensive experience in the offshore oil and gas industry in a similar onshore management role
  • An understanding of the operational requirements of oil production facilities
  • Experience in the maintenance and fault rectification on all types of electrical and instrumentation equipment, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry, including High Voltage
  • Knowledge of hazardous area equipment, and the requirements for installation, inspection and maintenance of such with reference to both European and American concepts
  • Supervisory experience of the application, review and management of electrical safety rules and procedures.
  • Sufficient electrical engineering experience and knowledge in order to specify, select, design, create work packs and provide implementation and commissioning support for minor modifications to existing equipment and for new projects to enhance the effectiveness of the client's business.
  • A thorough knowledge and experienced in the application of relevant electrical API/NEC practices and codes, and NORSOK/IEC standards to support electrical and instrumentation design and inspection activities.
  • Knowledge of electrical protection schemes, relays and testing
  • Ability to analyze electrical and instrument operational problems and provide solutions to effect maximum availability of equipment
  • Experience in project execution activities including project scoping, budgeting, construction, commissioning, startup, and effective cost management controls.
  • Experience with Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP) projects and operations, and/or variable frequency drives.


PC Application Skills:
  • Conversant with Microsoft Windows and common applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge and experience of SAP Plant Maintenance module
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis tools such as TapRooT
  • Familiar with Omicron electrical protection test devices and software
  • Familiar with ETAP versions 14 and above

  • Ability to liaise with offshore personnel at all levels, and with all other disciplines in the onshore support team;
  • Ability to recognize own limitations and recognize when it is appropriate to obtain additional guidance or assistance.
  • Able to work on own initiative, at all times working within the asset procedures and safe practices - and at times be able to provide competent input to these
