The Role
- Typical work scopes included within the remit of the Senior Materials/ECA Engineer are:
- The development of material selection reports for design projects
- The development of design, manufacture, and fabrication specifications for a wide range of components, including pipelines, pressure vessels, flanges, connectors, piping, valves, and other production equipment
- Interface with design engineers, manufacturers, and fabrication contractors to ensure best practice and client specifications are applied to all stages of engineering projects.
- Provide materials selection expertise based upon knowledge of metallurgy, engineering materials, operating environment, and material degradation mechanisms.
- Writing, checking, and issuing of design documents to provide ECA (Engineering Critical Assessment) and Fitness-For-Service services to the Wood client base . The role may be primarily based within the Wood offices or as a seconded role based in clients or project team offices .
- The primary function of the ECA / FFS engineer will be to oversee the successful day to day technical completion of ECA / FFS work scopes as identified by the Team Lead or the applicable client representative / project manager.
- Typical work scopes included within the remit of the ECA / FFS Engineer are analysis using ECA / FFS software tools ( Crackwise & FEA), design input into welding procedures and inspection techniques, assessment of known defects during fabrication, SCR / linepipe installation ECA fatigue assessment. Definition, specification, and management of any ECA related testing programmes.
- Possess a working familiarity with relevant codes and standards that require ECA / fitness-for-service for design and operational purposes.
- Writing, checking, and issuing of ECA reports.
- Perform fitness for purpose studies to ensure continuing integrity asset management of structures and pressure containing equipment.
- Assess the results of survey, inspection, testing and monitoring activities and provide detailed fitness for service assessments.
- Support other Wood offices with their ECA / fitness-for-service issues.
- Assist in the training of graduate engineers.
- Liaise with Customer(s) personnel to develop discrete work scopes and build a professional working relationship with the Customer(s).
- Promote Wood ECA / Fitness-for-service capability through attendance at conferences, courses, and seminars.
- Supporting other discrete packages / work as may be required on a time-to-time basis.
- Occasional requirement to travel internationally to attend site meetings and workshops with clients for periods of up to one week.

Personal Skills
- Possess a working familiarity with relevant codes and standards that affect Materials/ECA engineering and materials selection for design purposes.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering first class materials engineering services.
- Team player with good interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to those in a wide range of organization positions.
- Capacity to understand complex problems and help identify practical and technically sound solutions Thorough knowledge of international codes and standards relevant to fitness-for-service assessment (such as BS 7910 and API 579 / ASME FFS-1.
- Formal (TWI or DNV) training in ECA / Fitness-For-Service assessment.
- Crackwise / Signal FFS/ ANSYS/ ABAQUS experience
- Good PC literacy (specifically with the MS Office products).
Qualifications:
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Materials / Metallurgy / Chemistry/Mechanical is preferred. Alternative tertiary education and suitable experience may be used to demonstrate equivalent standards.
- Preferred chartered with Engineering Council recognised institution.
Relevant Experience:
- Experience in the Oil & Gas or Energy industries preferred in a role which had a primary technical function requiring the provision of Mater ials and ECA engineering services.
