Overview / Responsibilities

HSE Manager

Wood Process & Energy is looking to recruit a HSE Manager to support our project based in Ware, England.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
  • Embraces Wood strategic purpose, goals, and objectives and translates these into practical concepts relevant to HSE management.
  • To integrate HSSE across the project teams and foster a strong safety culture.
  • To build or grow the safety function, capable of achieving best practice for HSSE performance.
  • Provide constructive feedback & coaching to all roles within the framework regarding contract and site expectations.
  • Create and maintain an annual HSE improvement plan with agreed actions amongst key Wood site leadership team members.
  • To participate and engage on all safety related matters relevant to specific phase or stage gate deliverables.
  • To ensure compliance with legal and other requirements including compliance with agreed CDM duties.
  • To develop team members and provide performance reviews.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with client, contractors, and Wood personnel in the interests of shared learnings for contractual performance and improvements to current working practice.
  • To ensure the principles of HSG65 are implemented against new and existing processes.
  • Ensure HSE Management Systems are monitored and in compliance.
  • Ensures compliance with audit protocols.
  • Promote HSE best practices in the office and on projects.
  • Support HSE presentation needs to clients (internal and external)
  • Create and maintain key documents pertinent to effective work delivery.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings such as LOPECs, Constructability reviews, site visits etc.
  • Coordinate meetings with Client and Contractors to discuss safety related issues.
  • Investigate incidents and share learnings.
  • Promote safety initiatives such as Shield, Life Saving Rules, HEART, and Safety Essentials.
  • Establish Health and Wellbeing initiatives.
  • Promote and reward safety engagement and performance.
  • Create and monitor Business Continuity and Emergency Response Plans

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (essential)
  • Trained and competent Internal Auditor (essential)
  • RCA - Accident/incident Investigator Training, e.g. 5 Why / Helix / Taproot (essential)
  • Membership of a recognised HSSE related institute i.e. IOSH, MIIRSM, IEMA etc (essential)
  • ONC/HNC or equivalent in Technical, HSEQ or related industry (desirable)


Knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Extensive HSE experience, preferably with some exposure to capital project type contracts.
  • Some experience practicing HSSE in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HSE standards and legal requirements, specifically CDM 2015.
  • Experience of working in and managing a Quality and HSE Management system environment
  • Experience leading a team is required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of internal and external audits and third-party certification audits practices
