Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is recruiting for a Contracts Lead to join our business in Perth, Western Australia with a rare career opportunity covering the entire Australia & Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This is a permanent role and available as full-time or on a part-time (job share) basis.

Working as part of an established global team and a high level of autonomy, you will be the the focal point for stakeholders throughout the APAC Region with a focus on:

  • Managing and prioritising contract review workload across supported business(es) in alignment with business(es) requirements
  • Managing the application of relevant Group Commercial Policies across the supported business, in conjunction with commercial leads
  • Assisting /supporting the implementation working to maximize value, gain efficiencies and minimize risk to Wood
  • Managing and maintaining key internal interfaces within supported business lines


In addition, you will manage, support, and deliver the following under limited supervision:

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts, NDAs, MOUs, and financial instruments in accordance with policies and approval processes.
  • Reviewing and balancing risk of proposed contract qualifications with other functions.
  • Providing guidance on negotiation strategies and terms and conditions to assigned business(es).
  • Mitigating risks associated with contract terms and policy deviations and provide contractual interpretation advice.
  • Establishing joint venture and partnering agreements and build internal relationships.
  • Driving continuous improvement, ensure policy compliance, and provide timely contract input to tender and proposal processes.

Skills / Qualifications

You must be an Australian citizen or be eligible to hold Permanent Residency (PR) and be able to work lawfully in Australia to be considered for this opportunity.

Ideally you will be an SME in contract law and contracts related policies working in a similar client facing Contracts Lead role. You will also be suitably qualified from a recognised institution with the following:

  • Degree required in one of: Law, Quantity Surveying or Business Degree
  • Legally qualified (preferred but not required)

Your k nowledge, skills and experience includes:

  • Contract review, drafting and negotiation in a service company environment
  • Negotiation and set up of JVs, MOUs, bidding agreements and consortium agreements
  • Expert knowledge of contract terms, contract principles and drafting and compliance with contracting policies
  • Working knowledge of the Company Finance and HR systems and a wareness of all relevant corporate and project procedures
  • Excellent understanding of Client contract structures, principles, and policies with exposure to key contracting principles

What will set you apart will be your extensive c ontract experience covering engineering and construction projects in at least one of the power, infrastructure, mining, environmental and/or oil and gas industries. As will experience with EPC, EPCm, standard contract model forms (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JCT and LOGIC or regional equivalents) - preferably in both onshore and offshore environment.
