Health & Safety Advisor - Oil & Gas
Location: Waterdown, ON
Permanent position.

Our client is looking for a competent, self-motivated individual to drive Health & Safety initiatives across our business.

JOB OVERVIEW
You will develop, implement and assess safety programs and health & safety analytics. You will have a broad scope of accountability, including emergency management, incident investigations, and safety audits.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Lead in development of procedures and positions on health and safety related regulatory issues, and standard operating procedures
  • Participate in or lead investigations to determine root cause and develop corrective actions
  • Provide technical expertise, interpretation, and support on the application of regulatory requirements, compliance tools, approvals and management system
  • Conduct gap analysis and audit of health and safety programming;
  • Develop metrics and prepare performance reports
  • Provide 24/7 support to emergencies; act as a member of ICS team; assist in development of site contingency planning and emergency response
  • Conduct and / or coordinate H&S related training


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

 

 

  • Ideally 10 years of progressive experience in an industrial and construction health and safety role - experience in the oil & gas sector or linear infrastructure would be an asset
  • Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health & Safety or advanced Safety certifications
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CSSE / CHSC)
  • Valid driver's license


Skills and Knowledge:

 

 

  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation (including both industrial and construction), associated regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines and other applicable statutes
  • Strong analytic skills to develop safety initiatives based on trend data
  • High competency in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Where you'll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

 

 

  • Based in Waterdown, ON, small office environment
  • Regular 40 hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Occasional travel required along the pipeline route (right-of-way; pump stations and terminals) which could mean variant weather, temperatures and working hours
