We are seeking a Downstream Process Engineer with experience in Hydrogen Production Process Units to join the Global Manufacturing Excellence (GME) organization, under the Downstream Global Manufacturing, to support and oversee the performances of Client's global manufacturing assets.
Your primary role is to provide process engineering, operations and technical process expertise to monitor, optimize, and drive performance improvement and value creation programs for refineries' hydrogen purification and generation units, including remote and field technical advisory support, benchmarking, and technology knowledge management and exchange. You will drive the performance improvement programs which enhance process safety, optimize manufacturing cost, and increase plant reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:
- Assess operations of Hydrogen Unit existing facilities to optimize operation by developing/setting key performance indicators (KPIs) that will represent performances in different aspects such as profitability, operability, energy efficiency, reliability, process safety, etc.
- Perform in-depth plant monitoring and optimize performance of Hydrogen units by overseeing unit's operation and economics losses.
- Issue detailed reports to recommend changes supported by simulation models' result to optimize unit operation.
- Lead unit operations troubleshooting and investigating off-spec. products and plant trips/ upsets and manage the required deliverables. Support Operations during turnaround and unplanned Shutdowns / Startups by understanding the unit operating conditions and transient effects to recommend operations improvements.
- Manage long and short-term projects by proposing major projects to improve safety, reliability and profitability. Prepare design requests, budget justifications and detailed implementation plans for economically justifiable projects. Also, develop detailed engineering design packages for in-house process-oriented projects and follow up on implementation.
- Review in-detail and revise standard work procedures like new operating procedures, instructions, RIMs, alarm and ESD check list, MOC, HAZOP, JSA, Relive valves, plant drawings.
- Ensure environmental and safety awareness effectiveness with work closely with the facility Safety and Environment management to improve safety and achieve highest environmental standards.
- Liaise with vendors and technology licensors for process enhancements and changes as well as with Engineering Services Department for any technology assessment and piloting support.
- Perform a process parameters gap analysis and benchmarking among Global Manufacturing facilities (wholly-owned and affiliates) with hydrogen process technologies to capture and effectively share best practices, lesson learned, areas for improvements, and technical recommendations.
- Provide on-demand remote and/or field technical advisory support to Global Manufacturing facilities on matters concerning the operation of hydrogen unit which may include but not limited to process troubleshooting, start-up and shutdown activities, capacity test runs, technology pilot testing, and process design. Issue service report for every support activity provided highlighting the facilities need, actions taken, results, and lessons learned. You will promote a learning environment and implement self-development to maintain and improve expert status within his engineering specialty.
Minimum Requirements
- You must hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred.
- You should have a minimum of 15 years total refinery process units experience (process engineering and operations) with at least 10 years' experience in handling Hydrogen units.
- Exposure to different licensor technologies for Hydrogen is essential.
- You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a minimum of supervision on relatively unstructured tasks.
- Strong mentorship skills with the ability and drive to guide the development of junior engineers that you will interact with.
- Familiarity and understanding of the best practices, design principles, international engineering standards and specifications relevant to operation of the concerned process units is essential.
