Overview / Responsibilities Wood Mining & Minerals business performs consulting and EPCM services for many of the world's leading mining companies and is executing world-class projects on five continents.
Wood is seeking a
Senior Civil Engineer to join our Mining & Minerals business group. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is located at our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for delivering Civil Engineering services on our major projects. This position will be hybrid (a minimum of 3 days per week in attendance at our office in Vancouver will be required).
Key Responsibilities - Lead work groups or project teams
- Focus on meeting client objectives
- Lead civil engineering design and technical support for the construction and modification of mining and industrial facilities and services, including calculations, design drawing review as well as field investigations
- Prepare proposals, feasibility studies, preliminary design, engineering specifications, and contract documents
- Review project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation, including checking for technical quality and accuracy
- Lead and mentor junior staff
- Manage multiple tasks in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Develop and maintain positive & sustainable client relationships
- Coordinate and work with project team members
Skills / Qualifications - Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering with eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
- A minimum 10 years experience in civil engineering design within mining, energy and/or industrial projects of varying stages from conceptual to detailed design
- Solid experience in site development, and pipe and open channel hydraulics
- Tailings / slurry piping design experience is an asset
- Sound knowledge of various piping materials, fittings and joining methods
- Experience in storm water management, stormwater runoff calculations, sizing the ditches, culverts and ponds
- Good understanding of various coordinate systems and survey controls
- Experience in interpreting and applying geotechnical design recommendations on civil designs
- Capable of developing creative yet practical concepts
- Experience in writing technical reports, specifications and in preparing the material take-offs
- Experience in technical evaluations of construction contracts and material / equipment supply contracts
- Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills
- Knowledge of general civil designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards and construction methods
