Job Summary The Cost Control Specialist position prepares budgets, monthly cost reports and all other Cost Control documents on small to medium size projects as well as assists with proposal preparation in accordance with Company standards and procedures. This position requires minimal supervision and will be expected to prepare all Cost Control related documents in-line with project requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities While working independently with minimal supervision perform the following duties:
- Establish and maintain the project cost report including baseline budget development and maintenance of current budget, expenditures, commitments, and forecast at completion.
- Perform cost analysis in support of the project including direct to subcontract cost comparisons, extended overhead costs associated with project schedule slips, and productivity impacts to labor costs.
- Establish and maintain the project cash flow.
- Develop and maintain the project staffing plans.
- Establish a project cost trending program.
- Ensure all equipment and material requisitions & purchase orders receive appropriate cost codes.
- Ensure all subcontracts receive appropriate cost codes.
- Review and audit subcontractor invoices as required.
- Prepare the monthly cost report package.
- Interface with other departments to provide cost / budget data and review actual expenditures and forecasts as required.
- Facilitate the project change order process.
- Using the proper forms lead the effort in the preparation, submittal, and approval of project change orders. Prepare small change order estimates and assist with larger estimates.
- Maintain the project change order log.
- Organize and facilitate change order review meetings.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the earned value progress system as required.
- Attend weekly and monthly project meetings as required.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced colleagues as required.

Required Skills - Good computer skills.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to interact well with peers and colleagues.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of project execution including construction
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
- Good communication skills both oral and written. This includes leading project meetings, presenting data to project teams and company management as well as interacting with clients.
Education and Experience- Prefer college degree in Engineering, Construction Science, or Business Administration. However, comparable work experience is acceptable.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in cost control. Preferably in the Oil, Gas & Chemicals industry.
