Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Snr Portfolio Commercial Advisor.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise Project Manager(s) and the delivery team on commercial policies/procedures and commercial obligations under the Contract(s);
  • Monitor commercial activities throughout the Project, and work proactively with the delivery team to ensure compliance with all appropriate commercial policies / procedures and commercial obligations, particularly the Financial Management Framework and Fixed Budget Contracting;
  • Support and, if appropriate, lead risk management activities under Project;
  • Provide commercial support to the management of major project subcontractors and vendors to ensure flow down risks, liabilities and obligations are administered appropriately
  • Advise Senior Commercial Manager of the emergence of commercial issues, along with the provision of potential mitigations for project review, discussion and agreement;
  • Ensuring awareness of, and compliance with, the relevant Delegations of Authority and coordinating the process to gain the relevant approvals where necessary;
  • Other commercial support to the specific requirements of the Senior Commercial Manager.


Project Delivery
  • Accept commercial handover from Pre Contract, undertake initial review of terms and conditions and familiarise delivery team of key commercial obligations;
  • Continually review contractual funding and ensure tasks work within their appropriate limits, seeking the relevant variations in advance of reaching such limits;
  • Assist the delivery team with the preparation and processing of contractual claims and changes ensuring the commercial robustness of all claim and change proposals and ensuring that the relevant approvals have been obtained before making such proposals;
  • Ensure that any necessary contractual notices are served in accordance with the terms of the contract;
  • Prepare correspondence in connection with Project commercial and contractual matters;
  • Manage any contentious commercial issues through to completion, seeking the appropriate advice and approval where necessary;
  • Assist Senior Commercial Managers in monitoring and internal commercial reporting the Project;
  • Support the Project Manager(s) in preparing and finalizing the Project progress reporting (internal and external);
  • Participate in Internal Project Reviews;
  • Attend the Customer project review meetings (with Project Manager);
  • Ensure that cost/value reporting and end life forecasting on the Project are undertaken in accordance with Wood policies and procedures and that the appropriate values are reflected in the management accounts;
  • Ensure that risk management techniques are applied on project;
  • Ensure that invoicing and payments to Wood are made in accordance with the terms of the contract;
  • Ensure that the project commercial plan and profit improvement plan are fully implemented as appropriate and all related actions are carried out
  • Manage any securities (bond, warrantees & Guarantees), along with insurance matters, seeking Service Line Commercial Manager assistance were necessary; and
  • Agreement of final accounts and close out of tasks in accordance with contract requirements.

Procurement (including Sub-contracts & Partnering)
  • Liaise with designated Wood supply chain lead in the preparation of Project specific procurement strategies, including coordinating procurement activities with other Wood entities;
  • Liaise with designated Wood supply chain lead to manage and administer internal services arrangements;
  • Liaise with designated Wood supply chain lead in relation to placement and management of major project subcontract and vendor workscopes in accordance with relevant Wood policies/procedures and in a manner, which optimizes the Wood commercial position (for example, ensuring appropriate flow down provisions from the main contract are included in subcontracts);
  • Review technical procurement specifications and support Project team in the preparation of commercially sound specifications as required (for example, ensuring that workscopes are subcontracted on a back-to-basis where applicable);
  • Provide commercial review/input to procurement specifications, ITT's, tender reviews, purchase orders and contracts;
  • Review prepared procurement specifications, purchase orders and contracts to ensure back-to-back and flow down provisions from the main contract are included as appropriate;
  • Ensure that applications for payment and invoices are reviewed and approved and payments are made in accordance with the terms of the contract and relevant Wood policies/procedures; and
  • Close involvement in the evaluation and settlement of procurement claims to ensure that, where appropriate, procurement claims are included in Wood claims under the main contract.

Skills / Qualifications

  • The Commercial Advisor must have good communication skills, with the drive to lead in the delivery of Wood core values, processes, and procedures in an ethical manner. Have sound knowledge of commercial management processes and procedures
  • An undergraduate degree in business administration, commerce, quantity surveying, law or similar discipline
  • Experience in Construction sector - power, industrials, civils etc
  • 5-10 years experience on managing multiple contracts of up to $5m each in value
