The Role

We are seeking a Business Development Director to help shape our aggressive growth ambitions across the EMEA region in the downstream energy and materials markets.

This is a senior, very high-profile position and pivotal to Wood's global success. You will be self driven and able to work in a dynamic and fast moving environment, with an ability to communicate and present at all levels of the business.

You will join our Europe and Africa Growth and Development team and become a key member of the UK Projects management.

As focal point for Business Development you will be responsible for identifying business acquisition opportunities for our downstream Centre of Excellence for project delivery in Reading, UK, where we provide world-class engineering and delivery of complex, mega-scale projects across EMEA.

The office has more than a thousand multi-discipline engineering professionals, highly skilled in all aspects of engineering design and project management, with specialists in every discipline.

The successful applicant will cement existing relationships and build new ones, providing market insight to support our growth strategy, ensuring we focus our business acquisition efforts toward opportunities where we have the best opportunity to win work.

You will leverage expertise from different parts of the business to market our complex system integration capabilities for our clients across EMEA. This will include connecting within Wood across the globe and naturally will involve some travel within UK and EMEA.

Primary focus will be upon the development and management of our prospect and client portfolio for FEED's, Detail Design, EPCM/EPC and PMC projects in downstream New Energy and Energy Transition markets.

Responsibilities to ensure Wood is best positioned to nurture new/existing client relationships include;

  • Define and deliver effective strategies to gain new business
  • Provide intelligence and insight into market conditions, competitors, relationship status and collaboration opportunities
  • Identify new leads early and present to the business with recommendations for pursuit strategy
  • Define new market entry requirements and win propositions, developing a clear route map to successful pre-qualification and bid submissions and communicate clearly to pursuit and proposal teams and messaging to transfer into proposals.
  • Support execution strategies with information and intelligence on customer needs and drivers enhance the success of business winning
  • Develop, maintain and broaden good business relationship with existing and prospective clients
  • Develop clear and concise Win Plans, identifying win themes, differentiators and commercial insight

Skills / Qualifications

Expected skills and experience
  • Candidate will have worked within an engineering contractors organisation in a senior or management role with experience of a business development environment
  • A sound technical knowledge of New Energy, Refining and Petchem engineering in a large project delivery environment, from concept through to construction
  • Experience in a commercial/proposals development role would be very advantageous
  • Communicates effectively to build collaboration and influence stakeholders
  • Thinks strategically to support business planning to meet company strategic goals and objectives

  • Degree qualified in an engineering subject or equivalent preferred, Process or Chemical engineering desirable
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office tools, Word/Excel/PowerPoint, required

Minimum Experience:
  • 10 years with at least 5 in a senior or client facing role
