What is the role

Shell's Powering Progress strategy includes developing renewable energy generation to unlock value and anchor integrated energy basins.

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind (ASOW) is a set of flagship projects in renewable generation and will be one of the first offshore wind projects to be developed in the US.

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind is a 50:50 partnership between Shell New Energies US LLC and EDF Renewables North America. The joint-venture (JV) company was formed in December 2018 to co-develop a 183,353-acre lease area on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. The lease area (OCS-A-0499) is located within the New Jersey Wind Energy Area.

The Electrical Engineer Offshore Substation will support the front-end delivery, development, and construction of offshore wind projects, focusing on performing and reviewing electrical designs for the offshore substation. Whilst the role holder will need a strong underlying knowledge of power system analysis, this role has a great focus on electrical plant/component design, layout, operability and maintainability.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for the electrical design of offshore substation, including definition of employer's requirements and technical specifications, review of FEED work, support the tendering and execution of the EPC contract and review the detailed design.
  • Participate in project team meetings and cross discipline cooperation.
  • Stay on the cutting edge of technology, develop and maintain relationships with offshore substation potential service providers who can support the projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What we need from you
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience with offshore substation design, electrical equipment and electrical protection & control systems.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience, including a least a number of the following items
  • Experience providing electrical engineering support to offshore substation packages
  • Experience providing electrical engineering support to onshore substations at transmission or high voltage distribution level
  • Strong knowledge of all electrical components/systems housed on an offshore substation (including main components, electrical protection and control, LV systems etc)
  • Experience in offshore substation layout and associated operability and maintainability issues
  • Good underlying knowledge of power system analysis underpinning electrical designs
  • Experience is developing offshore or onshore substation technical specifications
  • Strong understanding of codes, standards, industry guidance in relation to substations/electrical components
  • Strong understanding of cable testing requirements / standards - including type testing, FATs and SATs (including commissioning)
  • Good knowledge of emerging substation technology, awareness of industry developments
  • AC and DC substation experience
  • Good analytical skills
  • Creative and innovative
  • Strong personal leadership in HSSE and Quality
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
  • Demonstrated consistently high levels of performance in all areas of responsibility
  • Highly motivated self-starter, friendly personality, good team player, and can deliver result independently regards to technical troubleshooting


Physical Requirements:

Ability to travel every month to an Atlantic Shores or parent office for 3-5 days at a time.

Working Conditions:

85% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 15% of time is spent outside of the office visiting subcontractors and project stakeholders. At least monthly travel to project site(s) is required.

As required by the New York City Human Rights Law, the following is the minimum and maximum starting salary for this position: $122,000-$182,000.
