The primary accountabilities of the Power Quantitative Analyst are:
- Build pricing, modelling, and aid in automating execution across the Power space (Trading, Business Development and Origination), but with a lens across the entire LoaD
- Build a standardised platform for forecasting across assets / intraday / curve trading to optimise Power positions accordingly
- Look to provide digital solutions to all business development & trading areas, including developing an automated trading strategy on initially short term, but increasingly longer dated positions / markets
- Support in-flight projects to standardise processes and platforms across EMEA trading & BD
- Be able to contribute to enable high quality, shared understanding of market opportunities, trends, and value potential
- Streamline and enhance the product array and functionality of the Power desk, including management of asset optimisation and all facets included; forecasting, intraday trading, balancing, etc
- Work as a focal point for new and innovative solutions for the desk, as well as how to translate these into industrialised and repeatable processes for IT to standardise and further automate
- Understand the deal funnel in order to appropriately prioritise new opportunities into the portfolio across the team
- Monitor 'deal stabilisation' after deals move into the delivery phase ensuring operational excellence and excellent customer experience
- Key "pre-trade" focal point on the desk for relevant quantitative information and queries
- Monitor model performance and use data / KPIs to understand efficiency & profitability of deals to help advise on commercial decisions
- Capture and share learnings from both internal and external experiences to Shell to help improve commercial and operational decision making in Shell Energy
- Partner with IT, Business Excellence / Commercial Delivery to select and implement (full lifecycle; scope, design, build test & deploy) new IT solutions and enhancements to existing IT solutions in readiness for new value propositions or enter new markets.
- Bring rigour/governance to the delivery structure and where feasible drive towards full automation
What we need from you
- Quantitative background: MSc in Mathematics, Engineering, Science or Operations Research
- Relevant front-office work experience in energy markets. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive experience in European power markets
- Solid understanding of energy derivatives products, modelling, pricing, and hedging practices
- Strong knowledge of advanced numerical and optimization methods (e.g., Monte Carlo, finite difference, dynamic programming) for pricing and hedging energy derivatives
- Strong coding skills in Python with working knowledge in either C# or modern C++ ( in .Net framework). Practical knowledge in functional programming is a plus
- Familiar with software design patterns, modern technology stacks or DevOps tools (e.g., Azure, Github) is highly desirable.
- Have experience in querying API platforms and databases, and end to end application development
- Knowledge of power fundamentals and stack models is a plus
- Can work autonomously on projects, manage time efficiently and deliver in a timely fashion
- Present experience driving forward with initiatives and projects
