ROLE OBJECTIVES Being a Country Tax Lead means being in the center of all tax related matters in assigned countries. Manage the effective and efficient operation of all tax processes and obligations of Shell's operations. Deliver value through tax advice, supporting the Shell business and Finance's strategy and priorities, and strengthening Shell's evolving portfolio and mission of helping society achieve "Net Zero." This is as senior position with end2end accountability for tax.
- Ultimate accountability for the tax affairs of Shell operations,
- Adopting an active role in tax shaping activities,
- Acting as a focal point and key advisor for knowledge and expertise in the country tax legislation, common law and administrative practice,
- Establishing and maintaining business contacts in country and identifying country advice work,
- Maintaining Shell's reputation in a country, with regards to tax,
- Providing strategic, operational and functional leadership to local staff where applicable,
- Coordinating resources and ensure proper liaison with Tax teams to ensure tax work is professionally managed
- Ensuring full compliance with relevant financial accounting standards within area of responsibility,
- Providing assurance sign-offs to the Group in accordance with the Group's Assurance Process
- Maintain records in accordance with Group Records Management standards and guidelines,
- Ensuring there is a process in place for compliance with the Tax Manual of Global Tax Standards in the area of responsibility assigned and reporting of any breaches thereof in accordance with established practices,
- Taking part in special tax projects and play active part in the Tax community where required,
- Managing consultants engaged to assist on global tax projects,
- Ensuring that the business and tax risks are understood and managed,
- Assisting with inquiries regarding the tax implications of business transactions and structures
- Working with business to understand commercial strategy to ensure early identification of tax risks and development of ideas for reduce tax costs
- Working with colleagues within Tax function as well as outside of Tax to ensure complete coverage of all tax related issues and risks
- Liaising with, managing, and building productive relationships with stakeholders, incl. business stakeholders and support functions
KEY SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
- University degree in Finance/Accountancy, Law/Tax
- Fluent English and Spanish
- Minimum 10+ years' work experience in various financial positions (tax, accounting, finance)
- Minimum 8+ years' work experience in tax compliance or advisory
- Tax Advisor Certificate will be an asset
- Effective at establishing and utilizing external relationships and contacts
- Strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing others
- Ability to evaluate tax risks, balance risk with business objectives, and make recommendations
- Strong and proved experience in project management (Six Sigma certification will be an asset)
- Excellent communicator of complex tax issues; both written and oral
- Ability to discuss and explain complex topics in a manner most relevant to and geared toward the audience addressed
- High level knowledge and application of direct tax, controls, standard streamline and accounting principles.
- Expertise knowledge of direct tax according to local and EU laws/regulations. CIMA, MBA, ADIT, ACCA, CPA will be an asset (Recognized professional qualification and membership of a professional body)
