The Pernis Laboratory provides support to all operating units onsite, Crude Excellence, Trading & Supply organisation, and the new Biobased business & operation.
Pernis is strongly positioned with its Sea-going harbour serving more than 1000 vessels and 10000 barges/year, together with more that 10000km pipelines in all directions to be a major asset for the energy transition. With the NorthStar project we have set our roadmap for the Energy transition to 2030 and beyond. This project progressing fast and the landscape is already changing to transform Biowaste into Bio-based transportation fuels and base chemicals.
What's the role?Together with colleagues in the Spectroscopic Team you will develop and maintain NIR, RAMAN applications and models. Grahams and Unscrambler will be your tool-kit to improve the performance of our refinery- and chemical units and drive margin optimization.
Accountabilities include:
Ensure high data quality, interpretation, and prompt reporting of test results Operates as Subject Matter Expert of analytical techniques applied within workgroup; Initializes the implementation of new developments to further improve the laboratory support; Performs complex analytical projects (including project proposals) in an effective way; Challenges project proposals to make sure that deliverables are "fit for purpose" for operation; Realizes ongoing improvements (efficiency and quality) of methods routinely applied; Make sure that the non-routine work to support operational units is fit for purpose; Follows analytical developments inside and outside Shell in area of expertise; Provides technical training/coaching to staff.
You will work hand-in-hand with the NIR team
What we need from you:A new team member with solid work experience for NIR applications in the (Bio-) Oil industry. (S)he does has good knowledge in analytics of the reference test methods and knowledge of (bio)Product Quality, Fuel Oil and Crude Oil properties, chemistry and testing is preferred. The NIR applications require strong customer focus in a dynamic environment whereby conditions change rapidly. Team work is key in this function therefore we need you to contribute effective to the overall team performance through appropriate communication, team working spirit and well defined deliverables.
So we are looking for;
- HLO in analytical chemistry (or similar).
- 5-10 years' experience for the NIR applications
- Good knowledge of requirements of quality system (ISO 17025) and data assurance
- Proved skills in performing projects: good quality and on time.
- Customer focus.
- Proved skills in training and coaching new laboratory analysts.
- Validation using statistical methods
- Principal Component Analysis (PCA),
- Partial Least Squares (PLS),
- Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and
- Classification techniques
- Design Of Experiments (DOE)
- Working with On-line analyzers, and assurance of model synchronisation
- Experience with Chemometric Software
- HLO minimum analytical chemistry
- Relevant work experience in this area
