Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking an intermediate Mechanical Engineer candidate with design and analysis skills and experience in utility and industrial boilers . A successful candidate must be a highly motivated self- starter with the ability and drive to solve problems.

Hybrid work options are available with this position. Worksite locations are Hampton, NJ and Fort Myers. FL

Key Responsibilities:

  • ASME Pressure Vessel Code calculations for tube, pipe, header and vessel sizing.
  • Review ASME Code changes to coordinate the updating of databases and internal programs for the ASME Code calculations.
  • Advise material selection recommendations for pressure parts, non-pressure parts and structural materials.
  • Review/approve/reject material substitution requests.
  • Hot and cold design of any boiler pressure parts, or non-pressure parts, based on actual loadings and allowable stresses.
  • Load calculations on all boiler components.
  • Advise engineering solutions and recommendations to project managers and designers.
  • Assist designers prepare drawings with supply and interpretation of needed information.
  • Review/check proposal and contract drawings.
  • Review vendor shop detail drawings.
  • Prepare hand sketches and drawing markups.
  • Coordinate the flow of information and drawing preparation with 3 rd party design companies.
  • Release drawings to Project Managers.
  • Field trips to inspect, or collect information, for proposal, or contract work.
  • Design any lifting frames/fixtures.
  • Advise if proposed installation openings in boiler, and erection sequences, are acceptable.
  • Develop new designs and new standards.
  • Review technical aspects of client specifications with focus on design issues to support proposal offerings, review vendor quotes for suitability in project requirements.
  • Write proposals for engineering studies and technical sections of proposals for component replacement including manhour estimates.
  • Interface with clients to understand their objectives for proposals and contracts.


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • 3 - 10 years' experience in Steam Plant Operations or Engineering with an emphasis on boiler technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize engineering principals in equipment design.
  • Knowledgeable with Codes and industry standards (ex. ASME B&PV, NFPA, etc.).
  • Have Solid PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, strong technical writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Must pass drug screen, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Extra (would be a plus) Qualifications:
  • Capabilities in computer aided design (AutoCAD), and other boiler applicable engineering software.
  • Professional Engineer License preferred.
  • MS in Engineering.
  • Experience within brownfield engineering projects.
  • Laser scanning/model development experience.

Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required. Note, this position will consider individuals with less experience than listed above but requires the willingness to expand skillset.
