Overview / Responsibilities

Lead Riser and Umbilical Engineer (Wood Group USA, Inc., Houston, TX) (Multiple Positions):

Assist the wider Subsea Team with all riser, umbilical, and subsea cable related activities and provide support in securing and executing subsea projects. Ensure that the objectives of the Riser Team and its customers are performed to a satisfactory high standard and that specific work tasks are performed safely, effectively, and in compliance with the specified objectives. Serve as a technical focal point for the Customer, Riser Contractors, Vessel Operators, Suppliers/Vendors and other internal departments. Assume a leadership role on major development projects working closely with the contracting group and Wood Riser Team Lead. Plan and manage the execution of engineering activities during all phases of engineering projects (Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Execute). Assume technical responsibility for riser and umbilical systems and interface design. Perform hands on design analysis of project riser and

umbilical systems. Review and approve designs, specifications, and engineering reports. Lead and guide teams of riser engineers for the successful delivery of riser scopes of work. Work with other staff disciplines such as facilities, pipeline, structures, materials, and support teams to implement studies and designs. Assist in preparation and technical aspects of proposal packages for riser systems. Apply advanced engineering design techniques for deep-water riser systems such as top tension risers, steel catenary risers, jumpers, controls umbilicals, power cables, and drilling risers. Perform technical monitoring and approval of any work by external contractors or vendors. During offshore operations ensure that operations are carried out in accordance with customer and regulatory requirements and in a safe and cost effective manner. Act as customer site (Engineering) representative as required.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

Skills / Qualifications

Employer will accept bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field and 10 years of experience in job offered or in a related occupation.

Position requires 10 years of experience in each of the following:

  • Operator, Riser Design Contractor, or relevant Consulting Company;
  • Leading detailed design of riser systems including umbilicals throughout the analytical design, construction, and installation;
  • Leading project teams to deliver work packages;
  • Detailed design project experience with Orcaflex, Flexcom, UmbiliCAD and Helica analysis packages;
  • Applying advanced analysis techniques; and
  • Generating Python script and VBA sub-routines.
