Wood is currently recruiting for an Automation Lead for our Forest Industries business in Vancouver, Canada .

The Wood Renewable Energy & Power business performs consulting and EPCM services for Canada's Pulp & Paper, Power Generation and Municipal projects. After more than 80 years, Wood's Vancouver office continues to provide professional engineering and construction services to the Pulp & Paper industry across Canada and the USA, as well as Globally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead technical aspects of automation project design and / or implementation
  • Apply integration concepts to a wide variety of systems and across multiple vendor platforms
  • Engage in all phases of automation projects, front-end engineering through detailed design, procurement, configuration, implementation, startup, and commissioning in areas such as PLC Configuration, SCADA, HMI, DCS and/or SIS PLC interfacing and/or programming, architecture and networking, and specification development
  • Design of industrial control system applications, process control strategies and control logic designs
  • Work in accordance with broad technical guidelines and with minimal supervision
  • Perform scheduling and resource planning for the project discipline team
  • Coordinate engineering work and technical input across areas in the discipline and, input into project wide coordination
  • Coordinate with other Discipline Leads to ensure a complete functional project and reports on discipline progress to the Engineering Manager
  • Lead the configuration, database and / or programming activities

Skills / Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Automation and Control Engineering
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree or Technology Diploma along with the ability to register as a professional in the province of BC
  • Proven experience in Control system specifications and control system architecture design, and implementation of Industrial communications protocols
  • Proven experience in DCS/PLC controls system migration planning and execution.
  • Perform within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Ability to provide technical leadership for projects related to the pulp and paper industry.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in PLCs and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) hardware, network architecture, integration, configuration and programming, industrial protocols, HMI Graphics and databases, and SCADA System configuration and installations.
    • Strong background and hands on experience with multiple systems platforms, operating systems and the interactions between systems, system hardware and architecture
    • Proficient knowledge of P&IDs and instrumentation/control equipment
    • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of the principles of relational databases, application interfaces, and Human Machine Interface design and implementation
    • Preparation of DCS, PLC, SCADA, computer system control panel racks, advanced control and SCADA specifications, test document and procedures, and related drawings

Hands-on experience with the following is highly desired, but not required:
  • Installation, configurations using ControlLogix, Factorytalk, Factorytalk historian or PlantPax.
  • Server and Workstations Virtualization
  • Active Directory configurations
  • Networking switching and routing knowledge
  • Installation and configuration of antivirus, anti-malware, and vulnerability scanners
