Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a Fixed Asset Reliability Engineer for a role at our client site in Deer Park, Texas. The Fixed Asset Reliability Engineer is responsible and accountable for the Mechanical Integrity of Fixed Assets and Overall Compliance of the Program to HSES and Good Engineering standards. This includes the types of inspection strategies, strategic planning of inspections, standards, support of detailed failure analysis, inspection and recommendation review. The intent of this role is to manage systems such that the overall health of fixed assets are known and risk adequately mitigated to enable safe, reliable and compliant operation of the facility, delivering higher OEE and fewer LOPC incidents.

The position focuses on using the best fit and up to date asset management strategies, which include but are not limited to FMEA, RCM, RCAs, Criticality Assessment, PM management strategies and predictive/preventative inspection technology. The position also holds influence on the various standards committees and will work within engineering, construction, maintenance and operations teams to represent and further improve reliability at the facility.

The roles strategic focus is to ensure execution of valuable reliability improvement recommendations. This role has resource empowerment and project management capability in order to implement said recommendations. This role also must focus on customer service, providing a channel through which operations can present reliability concerns. The position is a technical resource as well.

Job Description / Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit exceptional safety behavior meeting or exceed the company and customer safety standards
  • Take a visible role in HSES and Safety Leadership. This includes activities such as:
    • Attendance and participation at the weekly safety meeting
    • Periodic job site walkdowns, contacts and participation in the LEAD program
    • Incident investigation as required
  • Supporting the facilities Strategic Business Objectives:
    • Demonstrate continuous improvement of equipment and system reliability by applying the appropriate Reliability Centered Maintenance Strategies and analysis of dominant and trending failure modes, measured by OEE & Mechanical Availability
    • Establish, manage and evaluate the effectiveness of various proactive maintenance programs; CUI, MI Inspection, inspection deferral/deviation, etc... Effectiveness to be measured through MI Program Compliance
    • Perform predictive performance analysis for currently operating production systems and units and establish Reliability in Design criteria to be met as a requirement of FEL design review
    • Deliver the rolling 12-month Integrity Inspection Schedule/Plan
  • Responsible for maintaining, updating, and auditing maintenance department procedures for fixed equipment. Activities include:
    • Maintaining, updating, and auditing the Mechanical ISO Quality Manual, Mechanical Integrity procedures for the Process Safety Manual (PSM), ASME/API documents and general Maintenance Procedures
  • In addition to a detailed knowledge of reliability philosophies, this role is expected to serve as an Advisor with additional Technical Expertise, which could include MI industry standards and practices, technical knowledge of vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, pipelines/piping, pressure safety valves, rupture discs, conservation vents, cathodic protection, positive material identification, failure assessment, reviewing and advising on inspections and associated recommendations
  • The role must recognize and support the needs of the customer through a Customer Focused behavior and mindset. The function of the maintenance and reliability departments is to ensure a safe and reliable facility is capable of producing chemical products on time and in specification for our external customers. Internally our customers are the operations division and a broad understanding of their needs is essential
  • This position will have the authority to make recommendations for capital and expense expenditures
  • Supervisory Responsibility:
    • The Asset Reliability Engineer has no direct reports but could have responsibility for a small number of contracted specialty technicians or analysts. This role provides team leadership and guidance to the organization from a reliability centered maintenance perspective
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.

Skills / Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • A Certified Reliability Engineer or Professional Engineering License in preferred
  • Certification in Instrumentation or related engineering degree is required
  • 10+ years of related experience are required
  • Experience outside of Lubrizol's Texas facilities is not required but is a plus
  • Detailed knowledge of RCM/TPM and predictive analytics is required
  • Working knowledge of SAP Enterprise software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint)
