Job role:

Reporting to the Environment & Sustainability Lead, the successful candidate will support the client  meet, or where reasonably practicable, exceed its environmental targets in line with License to Operate commitments.

 

The role holder will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders, supporting the implementation, assurance and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS), enabling environmental performance targets to be met.

Key accountabilities:    

  • Engage with key internal stakeholders to provide environmental subject matter expertise on a range of environmental topics to enable compliance requirements to be met.
  • Interface with Environmental regulatory bodies for all routine reporting and permit compliance requirements.
  • Secure necessary environmental permits/licences/consents/authorisations from SEPA, BEIS OPRED and NSTA to enable the FPS business to drive compliance and meet Licence to Operate obligations.
  • Manage the UKETS CO2 emissions permit in accordance with all regulatory requirements including the annual CO2 emissions verification and improvement plan cycle. 
  • Provide competent advice and expertise on risk based regulatory principles such as Best Available Technique (BAT) to enable informed decisions to be made relating to legislative requirements.
  • Support the provision of a robust EMS, UK legislative requirements, and acknowledges industry best practice for environmental management.
  • Provide assurance to the Operations Leadership Team that all EMS and environmental permit/ licence/ consent/ authorisation requirements are being met to prevent non-compliances.
  • Provide waste management expertise to business and assurance that all ‘Duty of Care' requirements are being met.
  • Responsible for timely completion of periodic emissions reporting requirements to Group / external bodies.
  • Perform independent Level 2 Assurance on relevant Management System areas pertaining to Environment.
  • Performance manage third party specialist resources to deliver Environmental Improvement activities; ensuring good value.
  • Provide support to Sustainability initiatives to meet Net Zero Roadmap milestones.
  • Represent at relevant external technical forums to collaborate and inform industry best practice.
Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Science, SHE or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:

  • Relevant experience within an Environmental Advisor, Manager, and Specialist role, preferably within the energy industry or similar.

Desirable Job Knowledge Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance requirements, and in particular:
    • The concept of Best Available Techniques (BAT);
    • The application of the relevant BAT Reference Documents through the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations (PPC);
    • The application of Cost Benefit Analysis techniques to determine environmental benefit versus investment;
    • The monitoring and reporting requirements defined in the UK Emissions Trading Scheme legislation;
    • The requirements for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA);
    • The management of waste in accordance with legal requirements;
    • The principles of soil and groundwater risk management.
 

  • Expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
