Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Piping Designer. Reporting to the Mechanical Department Manager, this position is located in our Saskatoon, SK office. This role has overall responsibility for providing Piping Design support on our major projects within Mining Industries. The successful candidate will be responsible for various aspects of the layout, design and specification of piping systems and components for industrial plants their related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing working designs and drawings using company and industry standards and codes
  • Providing design and technical support for the layout, design, supporting and specification of piping and components for industrial plants and related infrastructure
  • Providing conceptual front end design to full detailed design and material take-offs for industrial and mining facilities
  • Designing and drafting of piping, pipe supports and auxiliary components in 2D and 3D drawing environments
  • Preparing and verifying designs on site including creation of tie-in drawings
  • Reviewing and checking project documents for scope, presentation and technical accuracy
  • Establishing good working relationships and communication with area leads, project managers, department leads, clients and other team members to coordinate, ensuring the compatibility of design
  • Travelling to site locations for design and/or construction/commissioning
  • Mentoring junior members of the design team

Skills / Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CADCAM, Engineering Drafting and Design or equivalent technical program
  • 10+ years experience as a piping designer, preferably with experience in mining and slurry transport
  • Self-motivated with good leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience and proficiency with AutoCAD 2D/3D, Plant 3D as well as AVEVA E3D
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Saskatoon area, if required
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
  • Additional assets include:
    • Potash, Uranium or other mining experience
    • Design experience with specification generation, stress analysis and mechanical equipment layout , materials handling, and / or HVAC
    • Underground mining experience
    • Site / construction experience
