Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an opportunity for a Civil Engineer to work with an international team on the detailed design phase of a mining project. Reporting to the Office Engineering Manager, this position is part of a project team located in our Oakville, ON office. This role will be responsible for providing design support on major EPC/EPCM, BFS Projects. Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with engineers, technicians, technologists and project managers in preparation of document and drawing packages
  • Provide civil engineering, design and drafting support for utility and industrial facilities and services, including buried and overland piping, pumping stations, access roadways, and spill containment systems
  • Engineer civil earthworks (including ponds, mill pads, rail spurs, etc.)
  • Engineer underground utilities (including fire water, potable water, force mains, sanitary sewer for mine and heavy industrial facilities)
  • Engineer surface run facilities including pipelines
  • Site grading and earthwork design
  • Drainage design, storm sewers design, and storm management
  • Plant and haul road design
  • Sanitary sewers design
  • Hydrology and hydraulics
  • Flood plain/Flood risk assessment studies
  • Culverts design
  • Open channel design

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent Technology Diploma with related mine experience
  • Eligible for registration with Professional Engineers of Ontario, PEO
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in large-scale construction projects including earthwork, underground and surface utilities with value greater than $10M is preferred
  • Experience in large-scale site closure/mine closure projects is preferred
  • Self-starter and with a willingness to learn and experience
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Ability to produce civil drawings using CAD software (predominately in AutoCAD) would be an advantage
  • Experience with 3D design/drafting earthworks software (preference to AutoCAD Civil 3D) would be an advantage
  • Experience in Mineral Mining projects will be an advantage
  • Current authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
