  • Job Description Summary
    The Captain provides marine command responsibility and support in the ship's marine operations. He or she supervises operations, equipment and auxiliaries and ensures compliance with operating procedures, maintenance requirements, and international maritime regulations. He or she oversees local maintenance and repairs of the ship's equipment. The Captain implements and upholds safety and environmental compliance requirements. He or she liaises with shorebased staff and maritime authorities as conditions dictate, and other duties as may be assigned.
    The Captain (Master) is in ultimate command of the vessel, responsible for the safety of all on board personnel, the protection of the environment, and the preservation of the vessel and all of her assets. He or she shall oversee station keeping, navigation, stability, and cargo operations. The Captain shall ensure that the vessel meets all Coastal State, Flag State, Port State, and Company requirements. The Captain, liaises with the Rig Manager to ensure that drilling operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, in line with client expectations. All persons on board, including department supervisors, third party, and crew, are under the captain's authority and are his ultimate responsibility.
    The Captain (Master) is the Designated Person in Charge (PIC) by Company management under IMO protocol.
    The Captain, as Master, has the overriding/ultimate authority and the responsibility to make decisions with respect to safety and pollution prevention and to request the Region/Company's assistance as may be necessary. He may take any action deemed necessary to preserve life and protect the environment and company assets.
